squat of the day Saturday is 326-pound Climber senior
Cary Nagel. The veteran wound up third in the super-

Earles, just a junior, nudged him by 15 pounds overall
on the strength of a sensational 360-pound bench press.
GETTING PUMPED for the 405-pound squat that propelled him to the
throne at 181 pounds Saturday is Climber senior Josh Arndt.

By CHUCK ROBERTSON
Seven years down and still
up and percolating, the Shelton-
Mason County Sports tlall of
Fame celebrates the seventh
anniversary of its inception April
26.
Founded in 1992, the Hall has
a simply stated goal - namely to
honor local individuals who in
some significant way have con-
tributed to and enriched local
sports lore .-be they players,
coaches, journalists or anyone
else who has made his/her mark.
While still in its infancy, rela-
tively speaking, the Hall has wel-
comed fully 12 inductees, ranging
from its initial entrant, long-time
sports journalist Bill Dick[e, to its
most recent addition, former col-
legiate basketball and thstpitch
star Cathy Cole-Dew.
ROUNDING OUT the Hall's
current all-star lineup (in chrono-
logical order of induction) are col-
legiate rowing coach Rusty Cal-
low, fastpitch softball's likable
player/coach/sponsor Jess Phil-
lips, all-around athlete front the
turn of the century Woody San-
derson and former major-league
pitcher and pitching coach Wes
Stock (Class of'93); [Tall of Fame
founder Garth Getty and Olympic
bronze medalist Des Koch (Class
of '95); long-time junior-high and
high-school track coach Bill
Brickert, fastpitch softball's re-
nowned "Thunderbat" Bob Miller
and two-time state-champ high
school football coach Jack Stark
(Class of '97), and popular fast-
pitch throwing machine Bill Nutt
(Class of '98).
BUT THE ROSTER is far
from complete, and anyone in the
community may get involved.
To nominate (or sponsor) a can-
didate tbr the Hall, simply notif€
a member of the Hall of Fame
board of your desire to do so and
submit a type-written page (or
more if necessary) detailing your
candidate's career accomplish-
ments, including any specifics you
consider significant that might
support his/her nomination.
As the sponsor, you also [)ledge
to assume the cost of a plaque
bearing the candidate's name and
sport(s). The current cost is ap-
proximately $25. Plaques com-
memorating inductees are on dis-
play on the east wall of the Ma-
son County Historical Society
Museum at Fifth and Railroad
downtown.
INTERESTED PARTIES
are invited to stop by the museum
and peruse the display as well as
the scrapbook compiled by mu-
seum director Billie Howard.
Upon reception of the can-
didate's nomination and resume
the Hall of Fame board will con-
vene to consider his/her candida-
cy. A 70-percent yes vote by the
board is required for induction.
Following is a partial list of
board members who may be con-
tacted for information regarding
nominations or other Hall of
Fame matters:
Chuck Robertson (chairman) 426-8620
Duane Wilson 426-1782
Bill Brickert 426-8606
Leslee Moore 426-0671
Steve Patch 426-9829
Jack Stark 426-1301
Denny Temple 426-7023
The Shelton-Mason County
Sports Hall of Fame meets quar-
terly at the Mason County Histor-
ical Society Museum.
Its spring meeting is set for
June 13 at 6 p.m. Anyone inter-
ested in submitting a name tbr
nomination should contact the
board at least ten days prior to
the meeting.

squat of the day Saturday is 326-pound Climber senior
Cary Nagel. The veteran wound up third in the super-
competitive battle of heavyweights. Teammate Jeff
Earles, just a junior, nudged him by 15 pounds overall
on the strength of a sensational 360-pound bench press.
GETTING PUMPED for the 405-pound squat that propelled him to the
throne at 181 pounds Saturday is Climber senior Josh Arndt.

By CHUCK ROBERTSON
Seven years down and still
up and percolating, the Shelton-
Mason County Sports tlall of
Fame celebrates the seventh
anniversary of its inception April
26.
Founded in 1992, the Hall has
a simply stated goal - namely to
honor local individuals who in
some significant way have con-
tributed to and enriched local
sports lore .-be they players,
coaches, journalists or anyone
else who has made his/her mark.
While still in its infancy, rela-
tively speaking, the Hall has wel-
comed fully 12 inductees, ranging
from its initial entrant, long-time
sports journalist Bill Dick[e, to its
most recent addition, former col-
legiate basketball and thstpitch
star Cathy Cole-Dew.
ROUNDING OUT the Hall's
current all-star lineup (in chrono-
logical order of induction) are col-
legiate rowing coach Rusty Cal-
low, fastpitch softball's likable
player/coach/sponsor Jess Phil-
lips, all-around athlete front the
turn of the century Woody San-
derson and former major-league
pitcher and pitching coach Wes
Stock (Class of'93); [Tall of Fame
founder Garth Getty and Olympic
bronze medalist Des Koch (Class
of '95); long-time junior-high and
high-school track coach Bill
Brickert, fastpitch softball's re-
nowned "Thunderbat" Bob Miller
and two-time state-champ high
school football coach Jack Stark
(Class of '97), and popular fast-
pitch throwing machine Bill Nutt
(Class of '98).
BUT THE ROSTER is far
from complete, and anyone in the
community may get involved.
To nominate (or sponsor) a can-
didate tbr the Hall, simply notif€
a member of the Hall of Fame
board of your desire to do so and
submit a type-written page (or
more if necessary) detailing your
candidate's career accomplish-
ments, including any specifics you
consider significant that might
support his/her nomination.
As the sponsor, you also [)ledge
to assume the cost of a plaque
bearing the candidate's name and
sport(s). The current cost is ap-
proximately $25. Plaques com-
memorating inductees are on dis-
play on the east wall of the Ma-
son County Historical Society
Museum at Fifth and Railroad
downtown.
INTERESTED PARTIES
are invited to stop by the museum
and peruse the display as well as
the scrapbook compiled by mu-
seum director Billie Howard.
Upon reception of the can-
didate's nomination and resume
the Hall of Fame board will con-
vene to consider his/her candida-
cy. A 70-percent yes vote by the
board is required for induction.
Following is a partial list of
board members who may be con-
tacted for information regarding
nominations or other Hall of
Fame matters:
