Records Fall. Rich Walker and his Shelton Highclimbers set two records when they slaughtered the South Kitsap Wolves at Bayshore last Tuesday. Walker, a sophomore, shot a sizzling on-under-par 71 for the 18 holes. The 71 was a school record. Shelton's team went one better. They had such a good round altogether that they scored 144 points, a league record. Walker was actually playing in the number two spot behind junior Bob Turner. Turner had a 75 and 33 points, while Walker's 71 gave him 37 points. Walker beat his opponent on the South Kitsap team by 36 strokes and 27 points. At the rate Walker was going, a par 36 round for one set of nine holes and a one-under 35 for the other nine, he could have gone around nine more holes and still tied his opponent in strokes. It was the second league win for Shelton in two matches. The visiting Wolves were able to muster but 67 points to Shelton's record 144, and had three players over 100. In the number three position, Steve Bostrom had a 78 and 30 points. Mike Johnson played the fourth spot and had an 85 with 23 points, and Jack Stentz had 21 points with an 89 in number five. The results were: Bob Turner iS) 75, 33 points; Bill Gilmore /SK) 86, 25 points. 2. Rich Walker (S) 71,37 points;Fred Barger (SK) 107, ten points. 3. Steve Bostrom (S) 78, 30 points;Mike Moore (SK) 98, 15 points. 4. Mike Johnson(S) 85, 23 points; Gary Simpson (SK) 108, seven points. 5. Jack Stentz (S) 89, 21 points; Gary Riggins (SK) 101, ten points. Walker eagled the eighth hole when he drove to the green on the par four hole and left the ball within a foot of the cup. On the other side nine, he had all fours, birdies on the two par fives, and bogies on both par threes, as well as five par fours. The Climbers' next match is at Bayshore this Friday with North Kitsap. Then Shelton goes to Vashon Island on Tuesday for their fourth league match. C~ch Andy "I'~ hopes h~ troops~ play as well as they did against South Kitsap for the league's tough opponents. Central Kitsap and Bainbridge will be two close matches. ic in Sophomore Rich Walker shot a 75 to lead all golfers in the Shelton Highclimbers match with West Bremerton last week. Walker also had 33 points and led his team to their first league victory of the season over the visiting Wildcats. Walker was in the number one position and beat his opponent, Mike Edmonds, by nine strokes and as many points. Bob Turner, a junior on the tour, shot a 77 in the number two position and beat his opponent by ten strokes and nine points. Number three, senior Steve Bostrom, beat his foe by seven strokes and six points by carding an 83 for 18 holes. Sophomore Tim Fredson lost his number four match by one point and four strokes, and Mike Johnson lost by a stroke and two points, but Shelton won, 123-103. The sixth man on the Climber squad that did not count in the score was Jack Stentz, who shot an 86 with 22 points. The victory gave Shelton a 2-1 season record and a 14)league record. m Brad Jones pitched a five hitter for Shelton and Bruce Cole hit a home run to help the cause as the Highclimbers won their first league game of the season over East Bremerton, 4-3, on Loop Field Monday. It was the fourth win in a row ........ for Shelton, and ran their season win-loss mark to 5-1. South won 12 of 17 events, and took the first two places in four. They swept only one event, the javelin, but scored in every event except the two relays. And so it was revenge for the Wolves after last year's breathtaking finish that saw Shelton win the meet by one point in the last event. Juniors George Lamagie and Chris Elmlund were the two biggest winners for Sheton in the meet. The each won one event and ran on the winning relay teams. Lemagie won the 440 with a good 53.0 clocking, finished second in the 100 one tenth of a second behind the winner, and ran the last leg of the mile relay in 53.0. Elmlund won the 220, and ran in both the mile relay and the 880 relay. The 220 was one of only two events in which the Climbers placed first and second. Jim Johnsen was second in the 220 at 24.3, two tenths of a second behind Elmlund. The other one-two finish for Shelton was in the 440 where Dallas Gunter followed Lemagie. There was but one more first place for Shelton.. It was in the 880 or half mile, where junior Gary Burger puffed in at 2:05.4 for the top place. Three Climbers had two seconds. Sophomore weightman Tom Brigham was second best in the shot and discus. Another sophomore who has already qualified for the Shelton Invitational in the high jump, Rob Settle, went 5'10V2", but was still second, as he was in the high hurdles. Settle was third in the low hurdles. Senior Randy Lewis was not up to the heights and distances that he is used to, and took two seconds and a third. He went two feet short of his best in the long jump and ended up third. Twelve feet was the height he vaulted over to get second in the pole vault, and his 38 foot triple jump was almost four feet short of his best as he copped second in that event. Sophomre Rich James ran both the mile and two mile, and on top of the punishment he set a new sophomore school record in the longer of the two. He covered the distance in 10:41.2. Due May 2 Head Coach Bill Brickert of Shelton has announced that Saturday, May 2 will be the date for the Shelton Invitational. The 1970 Invitational, which will be the tenth of its kind, will be held on Loop Field with preliminaries at 2 p.m., and finals at 7 in the evening. Over 35 schools sent representatives to theha~tational, last year, and of 300 participants, more than 60 went to either the A or AA state meet, proving that the Invitational brings together a high caliber of performers. The main objective of the Shelton Invitational is to raise money for the Shelton Coaches' Association scholarship fund. The other major objective is to bring together top flight athletes to prepare them for upcoming sub-district and district competition. Last year seven records were set at the Invitational, and none of the records are over seven years old. base hits. In the first inning, Mike Nutt smased a triple, and in the fifth frame, Curt Stracke doubled. Jones started out the contest by retiring the Knights' side one-two-three. In Shelton's half of the first, Nutt was stuck on third when no one could help him in and the score was 0-0 at the end of the first. East struck for two runs in the second inning when the second baseman made an error to admit a man on base, and the third batter of the inning doubled. Another error and two fielders' choices came after that, and the Knights led 2-0. The Climbers were downed in quick order in the bottom of the second. The third inning passed with no action from either team except a single by the Climbers' Jones.
