Rezone near

After a full year of de-
bate, the Shelton City Com-
mission voted on Monday to
approve the rezone of 160
acres of land from commer-
cial/industrial to neighbor-
hood/residential.
The land, situated near
the Port of Shelton's Sand-
erson Field, is part of a larg-
er planned development by
the Hall Equities group.
In April 2010, the city
commission approved a re-
zone of the 160 acres when
it updated the city's com-
prehensive plan. The Port
of Shelton appealed the
decision to the Western
Washington Growth Man-
agement Hearings Board
saying that the rezone cre-
sted an incompatible land
use.
The hearings beard inval-
idated the comprehensive
plan update, requiring the
city to provide more data
showing that noise from the
airport would not create in-
compatible land use.
Throughout the debate,
the port argued that the 160
acres was too close to Sand-
erson Field, and that noise
complaints would impact

Shelton library busierwith less money
By NATALIE JOHNSON
The Shelten Timberland
Library has felt the pinch of
a poor economy along with
everyone else and has been
forced to cut back hours, ser-
vices and projects in recent
years in order to balance its
budget.
However, when Library
Manager Patty Ayala Ross
gave a quarterly presenta-
tion to Shelton City commis-
sioners on Monday, April
11, she told them that the
library is more popular than
ever.
"I was at a party this
weekend and I got the ques-
tion that I often get w~'m.-
W~Pny do we need a library,
we have the internet, isn't
everything available on the
internet?~ she said. "My re-'
