Although the city once
planned to shut its doors by
the beginning of April, Shel-
ton's animal shelter will re-
main open for the time be-
ing.
"We haven't done the
kind of cuts we planned
because we haven't needed
to," city administrator Dave
O'Leary said.
O'Leary said that through
the retirement of two police
officers, including former
police chief Terry Daven-
port, the city is looking into
strategies to continue fund-
ing the animal shelter in the
short tom.
"We replaced one, but
with a new officer's salary
the cost is much less," police
chief Dave Eklund said.
The city found a new
police chief from within
its existing department in
Eklund, who was sworn in
as interim chief on April 4.
