Climbers
drop eighth
straight in
league
By DEAN SIEMON
With only a few games left,
Shelton High School baseball now
has eight straight losses in the 4A
Narrows League after Tuesday's
loss at home to Gig Harbor High
School, 10-3.
The Highclimbers (2-10, 1-9 4A
Narrows League) started off slow
defensively as the Tides (11-1, 9-1
4A Narrows League) scored five
runs in the top of the first inning.
With one out, Gig Harbor's Jus-
tin Bonnel hit a triple, followed by
RBI singles from Spencer Marjar-
rez and Austin Eibel.
The inning continued with a
two-run double from Jake Ayers
and two walks for another run. The
Tides would score one run in the
fourth and four more in the fifth.
"They put up hits and we made
some mistakes," said Shelton catch
Anthony McLeod, who observed
from the dugout on Tuesday.
Shelton's David Gorman lasted
three and a third innings, giving
up five runs on four hits and four
walks.
"Gorman is usually known for
locating his pitches really well,"
McLeod said.
Gorman gave up three walks in
the third inning but finished by
leaving all three Gig Harbor run-
ners on base.
"I noticed that when he gets hit,
he'll tend to slow it down," McLeod
said.
James Dickson went one for
three with an RBI single in the
fourth inning, where Shelton had
two of their runs. Dickson also
stole two bases.
Shelton scored on a RBI sacri-
fice fly from Forrest Puterbaugh in
the bottom of the seventh, which
brought in Joe Strand, who led off
the inning with a double.
"We have to go out there with
a little more intensity and show
these guys we belong up here with
them," McLeod said.
The Highclimbers have two
games with Mount Tahoma High
School on April 25 (away) and
27 (home) to close out the league
schedule - the Thunderbirds are

rugby team, finishing with
an 0-6 record.
On Sunday, the team
earned not only their first
win, but their first berth
into the Washington state
championship to be held in
Shelton on May 14 and 15.
The girls defeated vis-
iting Chuckanut (1-4) on
Sunday at Oakland Bay Ju-
nior High School in Shelton,

"They're super excited,"
said Shelton coach Kasey
Robbins after Sunday's
win. "They cannot wait [for
state]."
Ten minutes into the first
half, Shelton's Ashley Dahl-
strom made a run past the
goal for the five-point try.
After Dahlstrom's missed
two-point kick attempt, the
Savages took an early 5-0
into halftime.

After all of the teams in the
,1A/2A/3A Olympic League had a
chance to play each other once in
nonleague action, the North Ma-
son High School boys soccer team
started off their official league
schedule on the right foot.
After drawing a scoreless tie at
Port Angeles High School (3-5-1,
2-0-1 Olympic League) on Thurs-
day, the Bulldogs (2-4-1, 1-0-1
Olympic League) defeated Kla-
howya Secondary School (0-8-0,
0-3-0 Olympic League) at home on
Monday in a 2-0 shutout.
Colin Ralston scored the first
goal in the 13th minute, while Se-
bastian Gaspar scored on a cross
pass from Derrick Wolfe after one
of North Mason's eight corner
kicks.
While the win snapped a three-
game nonleague losing streak,
North Mason head coach Matt Fri-
esen said the Bulldogs could have
played a better game on Monday.
~rhat's a good start and that's
all that it is," Friesen said. "We
