Ate at the hotel in the morning and went
to the conference. It was line. We surely
learned plenty and I was glad to be among
so many fine people. We went to the ban-
quet in the evening. By each plate was a
white gardenia. We heard fine speeches,
one by Governor Sprague and it was very interest—
ing. Up to bed late and talked far into the night. A
big day.
Friday, April 24, 1942
Bought quite a few supplies for our troop and I
think we can use them all. Attended more confer-
ences and sat at round table discussions also. It was
fine. I took plenty of notes. Downtown and saw the
stores. Mrs. Selch went home early as she was ill.
Saturday, April 25, 1942
We arose late and went downtown. Looked around
and bought some pretty wrapping papers. We left
Portland at one and arrived in Belfair at seven. Got
all my stuff put away and sat down. Then went to
the dance at Legion Hall. It was crowded as usual.
Had a fairly good time but was too tired to really
enjoy myself.

Sam went east ofthe mountains for a couple days
rest and to find more clerks if that is possible. Char-
lie helped me take sewing machine to Red Cross
rooms and l folded bandages for an hour and half. It
goes very slowly for it is very particular work. Then
worked in the store all the rest of the time. Fairly
busy and there was lots of stock to put away. To the
house early and had steak for dinner. To Skene‘s but
no one home so wrote one letter and studied home
nursing.

Planted myrtle. bushes around the place where I
thought. they would grow. Then to the store where I
added up all money orders and then over to Skenes.
We drove over to Warren’s where we, dug out a lot
of daffodil bulbs. We stayed until about four. Then
