2020 NFL Draft takes on bigger role during pandemic
By JUSTIN
JOHNSON
t’s been over a month now since the world of sports went dark.
What would normally be one of our biggest distractions from
the troubles of the day isn’t there.
While it won’t be a live sporting event, this weekend’s NFL Draft
promises to offer a small, but welcome diversion to the coronavirus
pandemic. .
It also promises to be a marvel of technological innovation.
The three-day draft was scheduled to take place ,in Las Vegas, but
will now be produced at ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut,
with a limited number of draft hosts and commentators in studio ad—
hering to social distancing and workplace rules due to COVID-19.
The draft begins at 5 p.m. today and will be broadcast on ABC,
ESPN and NFL Network. It will continue Friday and conclude on
Saturday. I
NFLCommissioner Roger Goodell will announce the picks from
his home, and the majority of analysts, reporters and other experts
are scheduled to contribute from home studios.
Truth be told, I rarely pay that much attention to professional
sports drafts. ,
Way. too much bloat and noise from talking heads, but I think I’ll
be tuning in for this one.
I’m interested to see what both Seattle and my beloved Denver
