Forest Service on Mon- day closed all roads and trails leading to Mount Ellinor and Mount Wash- ington. The closure lasts until Sept. 30, running simultaneously with previ~ ously announced closures in Olympic National Forest and Olympic Na- tional Park. USFS roads 2419, 2419-014 and 2464, along with Forest Service trails 800, 812.1, 812.2 and the portion of trail 812 that falls within the Mount Ellinor area are closed. The closure includes the Upper Mount Ellinor trailhead all the way to the summits of Mount Ellinor and Mount Washington. , “The Mount Ellinor area has the highest rate of requested search and rescue events on the forest particu- larly in the spring, and this tempo- rary closure is intended to reduce the burden and risk of COVID-19 exposure to local emergency response volunteers and law enforcement per- sonnel while emergency personnel are strained,” wrote Susan Garner, public affairs officer with the USFS Pacific Northwest Region, in an email. “We will continue to evaluate the need for this closure order as the season progresses. At this time, it’s set to expire on Sept. 30, concurrent with the regional closure order of de- veloped recreation sites.” I Compiled by Sports Outdoors Editor Justin Johnson Post: A small distraction continued from page A-37 Broncos come up with. I’m also interested in seeing how the draft comes together with so many far-flung moving parts. “We recognize the challenging times we are living in, but we are looking forward to presenting the 2020 NFL Draft and providing some hope for football fans everywhere,” said Seth Markman, ESPN vice president, production in a release on NFL.com. “For the past couple of years, ESPN’s NFL and college teams have worked together on our drait coverage, and it has been a win for our viewers. This year, we are further excited to collaborate with the NFL Network creating an All Star broadcast. We’are also com— mitted to producing the ESPN/N FL Network and ABC shows in the saf- est possible environment for our an- nouncers and production teams.” This year’s draft also features a “Draft-A-Thon” designed to pay trib- ute to health care workers and first responders. It will also raise money for six national nonprofit organiza- tions to help with COVID-lQ-related relief efforts. I’m sure I’ll tire of listening to some of the talking heads and studio commentators, but let’s face it —— It’s going to be nice to have a distraction for a few days. Even if it is just a small one.
