This year Carmella LaRose Meyers won the grand prize for her submis- sion entitled "Sunrize in Amazonia." "I thought the piece was really creative," art associa- tion president Becky Shuy- ten said. Olympia artist Michael Croman served as judge this year. "It's hard to pick a judge, you want to get somebody who's had experience and who practices their art," Shuyten said. "Every judge is different." Croman works primar- ily with oil paint to create unique landscape paint- ings. "His style of painting uses oils and then he does a wash that makes it run and it almost looks like it's in a fog or something," she said. Shuyten congratulated everyone involved -- those who won ribbons and those who didn't. "I don't even think you should judge art shows," she said. "How do you com- pare one style to another? It's always so interesting to see what people will come in (with)." Art association volunteer Sharon Brocha won a first place ribbon for an acrylic painting called "Falling Flowers." "I thought that it was varied, it showed a lot of de- velopment," she said. "For a ONE BEDROOM travel trailer in Star Lake area, Shelton. $450 monthly, $250 deposit. 360- 426-2907.
