At 1 p.m. on Saturday, Shelton is hosting its 52nd annual Shelton Invitation- al. "This Saturday is the granddaddy of all invita- tionals in the state," Sells said. "Our 52nd annual Shelton Invite is the lon- gest continuously running invite in the state of Wash- ington." More than 75 teams are entered for the invite this year. "Out of those teams, we pick the top 16 ath- letes in each event to pro- duce such an outstanding field to watch," Sells said. "This track meet is so great because it brings to- gether a lot of community members that volunteer and help." He said the Highclimb- ers will have a few athletes competing. "Entries are still coming in and we are still picking our top 16 in each event," Sells said. Prior to the Shelton In- vite, the Highclimbers con- tinued their regular meet schedule. Last week, the team competed at two meets, one at home and one on the road. On April 18, the High- climbers hosted South Kit- sap and Timberline. The boys' team took third place with 96 points while the girls' team took third with 98 points. "The team did the best they could against South Kitsap and Timberline last week," SHS head track and field coach Doug Sells said. "Both are very strong teams. South Kit- sap has a large number of athletes and Timberline has some very talented in- dividuals." Sells said most of the Highclimbers set per- sonal records during the meet. "We are at the point where everyone is im- proving meet by meet," he said. He highlighted two Highclimbers for outstand- ing performances. "Senior Roman Hurst jumped 43'1" in the triple jump," Sells said. "He is only a foot and a couple inches away from our school record. It's going to be fun to watch him break it." He said that freshman Hannah Womer tied her personal record in the high jump with a height of 4'10". "This ranks her fourth in the 4A Narrows League," Sells said. On Friday, the High- climbers traveled to Yelm for the Mountain Invita- tional. The boys' team took fifth place out of 15 schools with 57 points while the girls' team finished 12th out of 15 with 22 points. "The Mountain Invite in Yelm was a great meet for the Highclimbers," Sells said. Senior Bryton Rodgers won the pole vault with a season personal record of 13'6", Sells said. This tied his career personal record for the pole vault. "We saw sophomore Cody Williamson run an outstanding 3200 meter race," Sells said. "Cody battled his way to second place and broke his per- sonal record by almost 20 seconds." He said senior Nathan Morgan had a great third- place finish in the 1600 meters, setting a personal record at 4:29.77. His pre- vious best time was 4:51.86 set last season. "All-in-all, this was an outstanding meet for us," Sells said. "We had a lot of top eight finishes and a lot of great performances."
