3RD HOLE ACED RAY WALKER MAKES
BY BOB COOTS IMPRESSIVE SHOWING
• A once-in-a-liftime thrill that At the State Championship for

on the third hole April 17th. Pro Ray Walker came within

WOMEN'S DIVISION
Last Thursday the golfing wo-
men fro Elma were guests of
the Shelton women. Twenty-
five women participated in this
event. Ruth Heuston carried off
the honors coning in with a
41 for 9 iholes (also carded a
42 for the! second 9 later on in
the day). Balls were awarded
for 9 holes only and the other
winners were Lila Frodal for
Low Net, .8; Helen Rice, closest
to no. 3 pin; and Mary Lovell,
fewest putts, 13. An excellent
lunch was prepared by Heinie
and served by several non-golf-
ing women.
On Tuesday, the 18th, Lila
Frodal won the ball for the
fewest putts.
Mark this on your calendar
now and sign up in the Trophy
Room to drive down to Aber-
deen on Thursday, May 4th for
their Exchange Day. This will
be 18-hole play.

On the first day of play, which
was Pro-Am, Ray won it with
a 63.
On Monday morning he quali-
fied and Monday afternoon he
beat h;s first opponent with a
68. On this 18-hole round he
putted only 25 times.
On Tuesday Ray elim!nated
two more men, one was the de-
fending champ Al M]ngert, 1 up.
In the semi-finals on Wednes-
(lay morning Ray's opponent was
A1 Mundle, and again Ray won
1 up but on the 19th hole.
After a quick lunch the finals
were staged between Gene
Counter and Ray. After 18 holes
it was all even, and Ray came
out on the short end on no. 19
to lose by one stroke.
We are all very proud of Ray
and hope this is the beginning
of a very good year for him.
COURSE CLOSED MAY 6TH
The golf course will b closed
to all members and the public
Saturday, May 6 due to the an-
nual Olympia Brewery fun day.
The food will be prepared and
served by the Women's Division.

• The Shelton Highclimber
track team saw victory snatched
away for the third straight week
as their 880 relay team was dis-
qualified for running out of the
hand-off zone to give South Kit-
sap a close 64 to 63 league win.
Running in their best efforts
of the season, Shelton captured
eight blue ribbons out of a field
of fifteen events.
After the disqualification in
the 880 relay, Shelton had one
last attempt to redeem itself as
Dave Gunter and Gene Purvis
of Shelton stepped into the dis-
cus ring.
With a determined Dave Gun-
ter in there shooting, Shelton
had a blue ribbon under con-
trol as the muscular senior built
up a corrlmanding lead.
Second place was still up for
grabs and South's Phil Sarb and
sophomore Gene Purvis faced
off to gain that all important
spot. A second place for either
side meant victory.
Though Purvis gave it his all,
Sarb edged him in the final toss one inch earlier in the season
to give South the upset victory, his 5-11 jump was one of his

Still striving for excgllencc,
Shelton's mile relay team came
Ul) with its best effort of the
year. Besides knocking off un-
defeated South it bettered its
time considerably with an im-
pressive 3:45.0 clocking. The
team is composed of Craig Rey-
no]ds, Gregg Richey, Jerry Arm-
strong and Ron Howe.
Chief Clayton reached one of
his season highs in the high
jump. Though he bettered it by
