Annie Ruth (Scoggins) Albert Annie Ruth Scoggins, 76, died on April 15, 2011 after battling a long-term illness. She was born in Atlanta, Ga. to Viola and Charles Raymond Scoggins. She married Robert Al- bert in 1955. The marriage ended in divorce. As a waitress, Annie led a vibrant life and brought con- versation to people in many places including Virginia, Texas and Pennsylvania. She enjoyed dancing, decorat- ing, word searches and good southern home-style cooking as well as keeping in Annie Ruth touch with (Scoggins) family and Albert fr i e n d s. Her family shared that those who knew her well will remember her feisty spirit, sense of humor, and her appreciation of am, real companions. She is survived by her children, Brenda Pierce of Lakewood, Marie Nazzaro of White Plains, Md., Thomas Albert of Pa.; grandchil- dren Aimee Kelly (Zane) of Fredericksburg, Va., Robert Pierce (Christina) of Turn- water, Jessica Burrows (Christopher) of Mechanic- sville, Md. and Stephanie Dutra of Barton, Md.; sister Patricia Ruark and brothers Mike McDuff and Johnny Scoggins. Billie Jean (Cuzick) Skillman Billie Jean (Cuzick) Skill- man, 78, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 of natural causes at her daughter's home in Dupont. She was a lifetime resident of Shelton. She was born April 30, 1932 in Washington County, Ark. to Willy Jefferson Cuz- ick and Bertha (Glidewell) Cuzick. She graduated from Shel- ton High School. She married Thomas L. Skillman Jr. They were mar- ried 45 years. She was pre- viously married to Charles Barnes in 1951 until his death in 1961. She was a homemaker, home health caregiver, bar- tender, waitress and worked at a Christmas tree lot. She grew up on the Hood Canal near Potlatch and en- joyed spending time near the water in the sunshine. As a young woman she would drag race her 1943 Ford con- vertible and rode motorcy- cles. She was believed to be the first woman in Shelton to ride a Harley Davidson and being so tiny, she would bring the bike to a stop and ask someone to steady the bike so she could get off. She bowled on a league at the Timber Bowl for many years and enjoyed horse races with her sister Marie. She camped with her children during the summer where she grew up on Hood Canal and also en- joyed camping and fishing in Near Bay. Later in life, she adored her Yorkshire Ter- ries) PJ and Sarah. Family time was important to her and she was very proud of all her children, their husbands, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She and her husband shared many fun memories at the casi- no in Shel- ton and a highlight was when Billie Jean they were (Cuzick) asked to Skillman do a televi- sion com- mercial and radio spot. They made a lot of new friends from the time they spent there. She is survived by her daughters Sharon Settle of Union, Karen Visser (Kieth) of Union, Tanya Graham (Tdny) of Roseville, Calif. and Tiffney Olsen (Alan) of Dupont; sister Roberta (Cuzick) Bechtold of Flor- ence, Ore.; brothers Willy J. Cuzick, Jr., of Shelton and Donald R. Cuzick of Shelton; Step-Mother Eva Cuzick of Shelton; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchil- dren. Her parents Bertha and Willy Cuzick, husbands Charles Barnes and Thomas Frances W. Orth Frances W. Orth, a long time Harstine Island resident, died April 23,2011 at Alpine Way Retirement Apartments in Shelton where she had lived for the past 3 years. She was born in Hoquiam, WA on September 7, 1926 to Lucetta and Vernon Wilson. Graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, WA in 1944 before attending college at WSC in Pullman. She married her high school sweetheart Louis Orth in 1946 in Hoquiam, WA. They moved to Bellingham and started their family while Louis finished his teaching degree at Western Washington Teachers College. In 1949 they moved to Issaquah where they raised four children. She drove a school bus for many years then became the transportation secretary for the Issaquah School District until her retirement in 1978. She was a charter member of Pine Lake United Presbyterian Church and was active in a variety of civic and church activities. She and Louis moved to Harstine Island in 1984 where they built their retirement home. From there they traveled the US, and spent much of their time visiting their children and grandchildren. Frances was active in Hartstine Island activities including theater productions, rummage sales, community club, women's club and senior lunches. She worked for several years as an instructor for 55 Alive, a safe driving program for seniors. She was a wonderful mom, a devoted wife, a caregiver and a wise and trusted friend to so many people whose paths she crossed. Frances passed peacefully in the company of her children and staff of Alpine Way whose loving care was a wonderful gift to us all. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Lucetta and Joseph LaLande, daughter Mary (1969), husband Louis (1999), and granddaughter Michelle (2002). She is survived by her brother and his wife Charles and Patricia Wilson of Castle Rock, Colorado, children Penny Orth of Shelton, David Orth and his wife Caroline of Sumner, Dorey Gibbs and her husband Richard of Bellevue; grandchildren Lisa Kresge, Christa Orth, Ryan Orth, Stephen Gibbs and Renee Gibbs. She was a resi- dent of Shelten for 87 years. Martha R. Taylor She was born July 4, 1919 to Charles and Lenna (Anderson) Sheppard in Tacoma the fam- ily moved to Shelton when she was four. She graduated, from Irene S. Reed High School in Shel- ton. She married Lewis Taylor June 8, 1946 in Shelton. She started working as a courtesy clerk for Lumber- men's for alaut three years before going to work for PUD 3 as a customer service clerk. She retired after 30 years of service in 1977. Taylor was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She volunteered at the Mason County Senior Center. She and her husband were mem- bers of the Good Sams Club and enjoyed traveling and walking. Her hobbies includ- ed ceranucs,0,nd spending time with children, grand- children and great grand- children. She is survived by her sons Clifford Taylor (Van- essa) of Heath, Ohio and Mike Taylor (Debbie) Noble, Okla.; grandchildren: Chris Taylor (Emily), Karen Mid- dleton (Justin), David Tay- lor .(Rachel), Jeana Schultz, Kimberly Butts (John), Clif- ford Jr. and Andrea Taylor and 11 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Taylor; brothers Faye, Alvin, Marvin and Charles Shep- pard II. Young, 80, died Thursday, April 21, 011 at home in Shelton. She was a resident for 28 years. She was born September 13, 1930 to Paul and Beulah (Anderson) Prestis in Longview. She graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1948. She married Glen Young in Longariew, in 1956. Her working career start- ed at Longview Fiber. Margaret Hollsrook Raymond Margaret Holbrook Ray- mond, 81, died March 22, 2011 at the Shelton Reha- bilitation Center. She was a resident of Shelton for 30 years. She was born August 16, 1929 in to Marjorie Hilton and Garfield Holbrook. ARer graduating from high school she worked at a convalescent center until she married and became a housewife. She enjoyed working with leather and sold some of her work at local craft fairs. Raymond did portrait pencil drawings and was particu- larly proud of her Elvis Pres- ley portrait. " She was a member the Ea- gles in Ma- son Coun- ty and the Bony Lake area for many Margaret years. She Holbrook e n j o y e d Raymond caring for and the company of her cats. She is survived by her brothers Jerry Osthimer of Kaysville, Utah, Gordon Holbrook (Pat) of Oregon City, Ore. and Robert Os- thimer (Donna) of Neenah, Wis.; daughter Diane Pearce (Mick) of Hawaii; son Bruce Raymond of Oregon City, Ore.; daughter in-law Billy Raymond of Sumner Wash.; niece Barbara Raymond of Shelton, Kathy Kraft (Ben) of Columbu% Ohio and many nieces and nephews in Washington and Oregon; grandchildren Alicia and Kaleashia of Calif. Merlfield, Jr. or Mr. M -le was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, brother, son, friend and teacher. His friends and family referred to him as Bill or dad, but his students all knew him a "Mr. M." He had-the most amazing smile and the best sense of humor.
