After losing 12-0 in a six-inning game (shortened due to 10-run mercy rule) on April 20 at home against Stadium High School (9-3, 8-1 4A Narrows League), Shelton defeated Curtis High School (3-8) on Thursday at MCRA in Shelton, 6-5. Shelton (3-8, 1-7 4A Narrows League) committed seven er- rors in Thursday's win, which head coach Kim Goldsby said resulted in Curtis' five-run rally in the top of the third inning. "The majority of [the errors] were in that inning," Goldsby said. "Once again we had a bad inning." Shelton's Madison Gaa gave up five hits and struck out four Vikings in the nonleague game, with the none of the runs against her being earned. Shelton would score two runs in the bottom of the third in- ning before three more in the bottom fourth. The Highclimbers were led by Jackie Gable's two-RBI tri- ple in the fourth inning to tie the game at 5-5. With one out and two base runners in the bottom seventh inning, Gaa hit a high flyball to centerfield, where after the catch, two Curtis outfielders collided. This allowed Shelton's Brittany Chamberlin to run from second base to home. "You feel horrible winning that way but there's no way I'm not going to give our kids a chance to win," Goldsby said. "It's just the way the ball rolls." Shelton is dealing with two key injuries. Jordanne Krumpols missed both games due to dental surgery while Ky- lie Schnitzer was pulled in the first inning against against Stadium after suffering a sprained foot on April 19 against South Kitsap High School. Bulldogs set to kickoff 2Oll season at Qwest Field By DEAN SIEMON The 2011 football season for North Mason High School will start the same the 2010 season when they face W.F. West (Chehalis) High School. The only difference is that the opening game for both teams is scheduled in the 2011 Emerald City Kickoff on September 3 and takes place at Qwest Field, the home of the Seattle Seahawks. The Bulldogs (4-6 in 2010) are scheduled to face W.F. West (x-x in 2010) at 3 p.m. as the 2A game. Other games include teams from 1A, 3A and 4A classifications. North Mason head coach JeffBevers said the an- nouncement has created a bit of excitement around the football program for the players, coaches and even the parents. "Well they're pretty pumped up about it," Bevers said. "Is there a better way to get the kids excited at summer camp?" North Mason athletic director Mark Swofford asked rhethorically. Bevers said there has already been an increase in participation at the school's weight room. "Let's use it as a reward for working hard," Swof- ford said. Swofford said North Mason was originally con- tacted by W.F. West in January since the teams were to finish their two-year home and home agree- ment. The two opened the 2010 season in Chehalis, where the Bulldogs lost 43-20 to the Bearcats. "W.F. West called and said they were scheduled but didn't want to leave us in the cold," Swoford said. With the early warning, North Mason attempted to search for a new team to host. But Swofford said the Bulldogs didn't have to. "They said [their opponents] backed out and asked if we were interested," he said. Bevers said North Mason's goal is not to exact revenge from last season's loss to the Bearcats, but to represent their school in Seattle. "Our big deal is we want to go in and represent our league and play at a high level," Bevers said. JIM'S HEATING & Am "Cakes & More All Made to Order!"
