tory at home on Tuesday :a watch," he said.
But Shelton was able to
against Central Kitsap
High School, 3-2.
It just took a little lon-
ger than fans would have
liked.
With 3:29 left in regu-
lation, the Highclimbers
(2-7-1, 2-7-0 4A Narrows
League) were ahead 3-1.
But the clock was shut
off for the referee to allow
stoppage time.
"He told me eight min-
utes," Shelton head coach
Marcelino Dumpit said.
Seventeen minutes and
a penalty kick from Cen-
tral Kitsap's (8-3-2, 6-3-2
4A Narrows League) Jor-
dan Kollars, Shelton exited
the field with their second
league win of the season.
Dumpit said that he
was told afterwards by a
parent that how long the
conserve the surprise win
after trailing 1-0 at half-
time.
"It's getting to playoff
time and we needed this
win," Dumpit said.
After Sheiton's goal-
keeper Cody Wilkes made
a save, Eluid Mendoza
made the assist to Cesar
Apaez in the 43rd minute
for the 1-1 tie.
Eight minutes later,
Mendoza would score with
an assist from defense-
man Craig Woodruff. John
Pentony would come off
the bench and earn a head-
er goal in the 59th minute
from a pass by John Potts.
Dumpit said Shelton
has had struggles with fin-
ishing the attack, losing
focus in the final part of an
offensive drive.
"For two hours [Mon-
day] we worked on finish-
ing," he said.
The 4A Narrows League
playoff race looks more
interesting after recent
games (top four teams ad-
vance), with Bellarmine
Preparatory School (10-1-
0, 8-1-0 league) at the top.
Gig Harbor High School
(10-2-0, 8-1-0 league), Sta-
dium High School (8-2-0,
7-2-0 league), Central Kit-
sap (7-3-2, 6-3-2 league)
and South Kitsap High
School (6-3-2, 4-3-2 league)
fill out second through
fifth.
While the Highclimb-
ers host Bellarmine Prep
on Saturday, Shelton has
one game left with Olym-
pia High School (1-11-0,
0-10-0 league) on Friday
and two games with Mount
Tahoma High School (3-9-
0, 1-8-0 league) left in €he
regular season.
"The schedule is set up
for us to make the play-
offs," Dumpit said. "If we
do it right, we'll get in."

Top Bulldogs
shine at South
Kitsap Invite
By DEAN SIEMON
A number of North Ma-
son High School track and
field athletes earned per-
sonal best times and dis-
tances during the week.
On Saturday, North Ma-
son took part in the South
Kitsap Invitational at
South Kitsap High School
in Port Orachard.
The boys finished tied for
fifth with 61 team points,
while the girls finished tied
for eighth. There were 13
schools from various clas-
sifications (1A, 2A, 3A and
4A).
"We responded really
well in some races," North
Mason head coach JeffBev-
ers said. "Every kid but one
or two had a PR on Satur-
day."
One example was senior
Tevin Williams, who won
the 100-meter dash with a
time of 10.92 seconds.
Williams also a time
of 23.71 seconds in the
200-meter dash and helped
North Mason's boys 4x100
relay team take second at
the invite.
Williams has yet to com-
plete a full track and field
season, including missing
the end of last year due to
a hamstring injury.
Bevers said the team
hopes Williams can main-
tain his health not only
for the upcoming state
championships for next fall
when he joins the football
team for Eastern Washing-
ton University.
