Man faces attempted murder charge By KEVAN MOORE A Shelton man faces first-degree assault and attempted murder charges following a stabbing on the Squaxin Island Reservation this past weekend. Shelton resident Fernando Rodriguez, 46, made an initial appearance in Mason County Superior Court on Monday. Court Commis- sioner Robert Sauerlender found probable cause for Rodriguez's arrest and ordered him held on $250,000 bail. Arraignment is set for May 10. According to the Mason County Sheriff's Office, Rodriguez and Shelton resident Wal- ter J. Henry, 31, went to a house on SE Ska- lapin Lane on Saturday evening. While at the residence an argument and altercation broke out between Rodriguez and Henry and deputies say alcohol was a factor in the dis- pute that lead up to the stabbing. Squaxin Island Police Department of- ricers responded to the residence at about 10:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Henry on the floor of the house suffering from stab wounds. A short time later, Ma- son County deputies arrived and deployed a K-9 unit to search the area for a suspect. The search was started a short distance from the scene on a tip from a citizen who had seen a suspicious man. Rodriguez was subsequently located and taken into custody by the K-9 unit. After be- ing identified by a witness, Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Mason County Jail on charges of assault in the first degree. Deputies said that Henry is recovering from his stab wounds and was expected to be released from St Peter Hospital in Olympia on Tuesday.
