Bruised Climbers drop two games in 12 hours By DEAN SIEMON After losing 1-0 at Olympia High School on Friday, the Shelton High School boys soccer team could not recov- er in a 7-0 loss to Bellarmine Prepara- tory School on Saturday outside Oakland Bay Junior High School in Shelton. Shelton head coach Marcelino Dump- it said the team was already suffering from injuries before the two games in less than 24 hours - seven Highclimbers were out with injuries in addition to two players suspended due to the number of cards they have collected. "[The scheduling] wasn't good for re- covering their bodies;" Dumpit said. "We were playig good soccer and then injuries make it hard for us to play well." In the 75th minute, Shelton added an eighth player to their list of injuries - se- nior goalkeeper Cody Wilkes. After making a diving save, Wilkes looked as if he landed straight onto his right shoulder. In the final minutes, his right arm was limp as he continued with one arm to throw and set up punting the ball from the goalie box. In addition to the backup keeper in Dalton Jaske being one of the previous seven injured, the loss of a team captain is that much more devastating to the banged up Highclimbers. "[Wilkes] is the base of our team," Dumpit said. "Everyone feeds off of him. He isn'Ir going to step out of the goal." While Wilkes did not suffere a frac- ture, he was still unable to tend the net in the 4-0 lo§s at South Kitsap High School on Tuesday. Bellarmine Prep scored their first goal in the second minute from a strike by Mi- chael Dick, followed by goals from Alex Volgt in the 10th and 28th minutes. Kurtis Peterson's goal in the 37th minute would set the 4-0 halftime score. With the regular season coming to an end and the Highclimbers hoping to sneak into the fourth and final 4A Nar- rows League playoff spot, the window is closing on Shelton. "Right now, we are trying to stay healthy and aspiring for good soccer," Dumpit said.
