Alton B. Holder
Services were held at "2. p.m.
Friday in Batstone Funeral Home
for Alton B. Holder who died in
Shelton on April 30.
Mr. Holder, 70, was born July
13, 1904 in Pickins, South
Carolina. He had lived in Shelton
for the past two years, and had
previously resided for many years
in San Mateo, California.
He had long been employed
by the Federal Aeronautics
Administration and was a member
of Moose Lodge and Northside
Baptist Church of Shelton.

son, Alton B. Holder Jr. of
Newhall, California; a

Carolina; eight grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.
The Reverend Dennis Teague
officiated at Mr. Holder's funeral,
and burial was in Shelton
Memorial Park.

Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Steinberg of
Oakland, California on May 1.

Belen, New Mexico.
Great -grandparents are Charles
Steinberg of Fairbury, Illinois;
Mrs. Nichols of Kansas; and Mrs.
Campbell of Belen.
Cynthia McKean
Cynthia McKean, born
October 13, 1893 in Montesano,
died Sunday.
She lived most of her life in'
the Grays Harbor area, and is
survived by a daughter, Irene
Dunn of Shelton and by three
grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2
p.m. Saturday in Whiteside
Chapel, Aberdeen. Burial will be
in Wynoochee Cemetery,
Montesano, on Monday.
Frank Ahl
Frank Ahl, 273 Island Lake
Drive, Shelton, died Friday in the
Fir Lane Terrace Convalescent
Center. Mr. Ahl was born in
Hoodsport on June 21, 1900 of a
well-known pioneer family.
He worked for the U.S. Forest
Service and in early-day logging
camps in the Hoodsport area. In
later years Mr. Ahl was employed
by Simpson Timber Company,
retiring after 18 years of service.
Survivors include his wife,
Ernastine, of the home: a
daughter, Mrs. Robert (Alto;a)
Kvamme ; one granddaughter,
Kristen, of Tacoma; thEcr
step-daughters, Mrs. Ve~uou
(Naomi) Stewart. MTs. l)ayle
(Jean) Howard, Mrs. William
(Rea) Brown; 12 step-glandchil-
dren; and one grca~
step-granddaughter, all ot

A memorial service will be
held Saturday at I p.m. in the
United Methodist Church el
Shelton. The Reverend Arlau M.
Halvorsen will officiate.

Dr. R.G. Bingham
Dr. R. G. Bingham died April
13 in Puyallup after a proh)nged
hospitalization for accidental
injuries received in August 1973.
lie was born in Cottingham,
kngland, Seplember 21, 1938.

laboratory in Seattle in
November 1965, where he
c,~utint, cd research into cosmic
ray physics and X-ray astronomy,
and developed applications of
X-ray crystal diffraction
lcchuology for solar,
astro-physical and medical
applications. He was also an
affiliate professor, Department of
Astronomy, University of
Washington, lot some time. More
recently, he was assigned to the
AWACS p~ogram support and a
NASA study contract work.
Previously he had been a
research associate in the School of
Physics and Astronomy,
Universily of Minnesota, from
1963 to 1965. During this period,
he was co-investigator of the
charged particle cosmic ray
experiments on the OGO I1 and
O(;O IV satellites, and was
extensively involved in the design
of ~l,e cosmic ray experiments
carried on the Pioneer C and D
deep space probes.
Dr. Bingham was educated in
England, obtaining his BSc with
first dass honors in physics and
mathematics from the University
of Leeds. He conducted basic
experimental research into the
sidereal time variations and
longitudinal and latitudinal
structure of extensive cosmic ray
showers, and was awarded a PhD
degree in 1963.
He was a member of the
American Astronomical Society,
American Association for
Advancement of Science, and
American Geophysical Union; his
British societies were the Institute
of Physics and the United
Kingdom Physical Society. He
was the author of numerous
professional and technical
publications.
Dr. Bingham is survived by a
brother, Malcolm G. Bingham of
Gosport, Hampshire, England.
