The Mason County
Bicentennial Committee looked
over the first entries in the
contest to design a flag for Mason
County and gave Bicentennial
designation to five projects at its
meeting this week.
The committee has received
approval from the Mason County
Commission to conduct a contest
to select a design for an official
flag for Mason County.
The first entries were
received. Entries will continue to
be accepted for several months
before a final selection is made.
Anyone interested
submitting a design can turn it in
at the Senior Center. Designs
should be in color and should be
on an 8 by 11 piece of paper.
The committee approved
Bicentennial designation for two
projects submitted by Sandra
Yaeger, fourth grade teacher at
Pioneer School. She plans to have
her class do research on the
history of the Pioneer area and
planning for a community of the
future during the next school
year.
She also submitted a plan to
form a community committee in
the Pioneer area to do such things
as establish markers on historical
sites and other activities.
A proposal from the Mason
County Democrat Central
Committee was presented by Brad
Owen. The proposal was to have
the Third Congressional District
meeting in September feature the
Bicentennial theme with speakers
to talk about the Bicentennial.
