The Shelton High School track and
field teams competed in the Shaner
Invitational on May 3 at Tumwater
High School.
The Highclimbers' Brock Knowles
won the boys 800 meters with a time
of 1 minute, 56.88 seconds to lead the
Highclimbers. Ethan Bursch finished
fourth in the race with a personal-
record time of 1:59.9.
Senior William Johnson finished
second in the 3,200 meters for Shel-
ton with a time of 9:40.65.
On the girls side, sophomore Vic-
toria Silverman won the 300-meter
hurdles with a season-best time of
46.26, and finished second in the
100-meter hurdles with a time of
16.49.
Alauna Carstens ran a personal
record 12:03.60 for Shelton in finish-
ing third in the girls 3,200 meters.
Kamdan Nicklaus was third in the
high jump at 5 feet. Austyne Cralle
was third in the triple jump with a
mark of 33-5 3/4.
The Shelton girls finished seventh
at the 13-team meet, while the boys
were 10th.
Girls tennis
The Shelton High School girls ten-
nis team suffered its second loss in
South Sound Conference action on
May 2 at Shelton High School.
The Highclimbers' No. 1 doubles
team of Josie Beaudoin and Lindsi
Smotherman, and No. 2 doubles team
of Kaylee Slone and Audrey Beaudoin
earned the match points for Shelton.
The loss dropped the Highclimb-
ers to 5-2 in SSC action (6-5 overall)
and Shelton will enter this week's
SSC tournament as the No. 3 seed.
The tournament begins on Friday at
Steamboat Tennis & Athletic Club in
Olympia.
As a top-three regular season fin-
isher, Shelton takes its Nos. 1 and
2 singles and doubles teams to the
league meet.
The Shelton High School girls golf
team wrapped up its regular season
April 30 at Olympia County Club in a
111-70 loss to Capital.
Dreann Merriman led the High-
climbers with 22 points, followed by
Grace Toney with 20 points.
"This was our last match of the
season and we played OK," Shelton
girls coach Lorna Martinson said.
"The course was playing very tough
with lots of bunkered and very fast
greens, so it took us a while to adjust
to the green speed. I am just so proud
of how well these girls have done this
year as they have all shown great
improvements. It sets us up to have
a pretty good season next year with a
veteran, experienced team."
The Shelton boys golf team
wrapped up its regular season with
a 98-85 loss to Capital on April 30 at
Olympia County Club.
The Highclimber teams competed
in the South Sound Conference tour-
nament Tuesday at The Home Course
in DuPont. The tournament ended
after the Shelton-Mason County Jour-
nal's deadline.
