when he worked with every class,
preschool through fourth grade,

songs and actions.
He incorporated his teachings

and the educators in attendance
were amazed at how prepared the
children were. This made the pro-
gram even better!
During the rest of the week the
children enjoyed a cultural ex-
change among the classrooms, com-
plete with passports to other lands.
In the lunchroom, children had the
opportunity to eat special lunches
representing other cultures. Guest
storytellers visited during the week.
Students were spellbound by stories
told by David Casey of the Twana
Tribe and William Gilstrap's stories
of the Raven and Crow. Children
learned how to write some simple
words in Chinese from Lai Wan
Gunter. A Saint Martin's Univer-
sity student from China, Jane Ni,
shared stories about school and her
childhood near Shanghai, China.
Members of the Multicultural
Committee spent many hours plan-
ning the week's activities. They
are Deborah Allen, Susan Casey,
Lauri McGovern, Kate Mac William
and Pat Peters. The Pioneer Par-
ent Teacher Student Association
and the Pioneer Kiwanis supported
these programs with monetary con-
tributions.
"We want to thank the :Kiwanis
and PTSA wholeheartedly for their
generous donations," stated Mrs.
McGovern. "We couldn't have had
such a high-caliber week for our stu-
dents without their kind support."
In other news, the Pioneer Schools
Foundation would like to remind
everyone to attend its third annual
auction this Saturday. It will be held
in the multipurpose room used by
the intermediate and middle-school
students. It will begin at 6 p.m. and
feature many large and small items
to be auctioned throughout the eve-
ning. Dessert will be available for
purchase to help make this a sweet
evening for all who attend.
