Catherine "Kay" Pearl
Levette, 89, died on May
7, 2012, at Shelton Health
and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on Sept. 1,
1922, in Munising, Mich.,
to Avenon and Helena
Viger. Her family moved
to Shelton in 1929 and she
gradu-
ated from
Irene S.
Reed High
School.
She mar-
ried Wil-
liam (Bill)
Levette in
1940.
Catherine She
Levette worked
for the
Washing-
ton State Patrol in Lacey,
retiring in 1985. She was
a lifeguard, Cub Scout den
mother, Girl Scout Leader,
PTA President and Sun-
day school teacher. She
loved to travel and cook.
She is survived by
children Steve (Barbara)
Levette of Union, Bar-
bara (Dave) Anderson of
Olympia and Kitty Lovett
of Lacey; brothers Bill
and Butch Viger of Union;
sister Toni Hurlen of Flor-
ence, Ariz.; grandchildren
Christopher Sieg, Michael
t Sonshine) Sieg, Mary
(Brian) Murphy and Becky
Slosson; 11 great-grand-
children and a great-great
grandson.
She was preceded in
death by her parents,
husband, sisters Jose-
phine Rau and Gertrude
Batstone" brother Joseph
Viger and son-in-law Jim
Lovett.
A graveside service will
be held at 11 a.m. on Fri-
day at Shelton Memorial
Park. A celebration of life
will follow at St. Edward's
Catholic Church in the
parish hall at high noon.
Forest Funeral Home is
in charge of arrangements.
A viewing will be held
from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on
Thursday. Remembrances

Neoma Boyce
Neoma B0yce, 81, died
on May 2, 2012, at home
in Port Orchard.
She was born on Dec. 5,
1930, in Taft, Calif. She
married Ted Boyce on May
27, 1950, in Taft. She was
a homemaker who enjoyed
reading and traveling in
their motor home.
She is survived by her
husband of Port Orchard,
daughters Janice Cordes
of Converse, Texas, and
Karen Cain of Port Or-
chard. Preceding her in
death is daughter Linda
(Gibson) Gillmor.
An inurnment memorial
will be held at 1 p.m. on
Saturday at Sunnyslope
Improvement Association.

Kenneth Evans
Kenneth Lee Evans, 78,
died on April 28, 2012.
He was a resident of
Federal Way.
He was born on Dec.
24, 1933, in Shelton, to Ed
and Leona (Hunt) Evans.
He was
raised
in Hood-
sport and
graduated
from Shel-
ton High
School
in 1951,
where he
Kenneth was voted
Evans "the best
smile." He
was mar-
ried to Donnagene Paulson
from 1953 to 1977, later
marrying Lynn Chamber-
lin of Seattle.
He worked in the auxo-
mobile industry retiring
from General Motors in
Detroit in 1993. He was an
avid boater who enjoyed

joined the Tacoma Yacht

He is also survived by
his first wife, niece Cindy

dog Sophie.
A celebration of life will
be held at 7 p.m. on May
18, at the Tacoma Yacht
Club.

Allen R. Rogers
Allen R. Rogers, 59,
'died on May 4, 2012, at
Mason General Hospital in
Shelton. He was a resident
of Bremerton.
He was born on Aug. 4,
1952, in Renton to Albert
W. and Dolores (Knowles)
Rogers. He graduated
from Kent-Meridian High
School in 1971 and was
never married.
He worked at the
Bremerton Naval Ship-
yard and enjoyed sailing
on his sailboat.
Surviving are sister
Sandy (Robert) Ross and
niece Carly Ross of E1-
lensburg, and nephew Joel
Ross of Portland, Ore.
His parents preceded
him in death.
Per his request, no ser-
vices will be held.

Neff Evander
Neil Edwin Evander,
88, died on May 2, 2012, in
Shelton.
He was a resident of Al-
pine Way in Shelton.
He was born on Aug. 7,
1923, in Wheaton, Minn,
to Edwin S. (Winnefred)
Evander.
He graduated from
Walla Walla High
School in 1941 and re-
ceived his BS degree in
Pharmacy from Wash-
ington State College in
1949. He became a third
generation pharmacist
following his father
Edwin and grandfather
Gus Evander. He ar-
rived in Shelton in 1949
and worked at a local
pharmacy which he lat-
er purchased and named
Neil's Pharmacy.
He was a member of the
US Navy from 1942-1946.
On Aug. 25, 1948, he mar-
ried Kathryn Jean Severin
in Longview.
He is survived by chil-
dren David, Steven and
Vera Riveria, six grand-
children and 12 great-
grandchildren.
He is preceded in death
by his wife, sister Virgin-
ia, son Thomas and Moby,
the dog.
A graveside service was
held on May 4, 2012.

Hartley Alfred Loertscher
October 14 th, 1919 - May 2 nd, 2012
Hartley resided in Mason County most of his 92 years. He lived over 60 years
on the Loertscher Farm out Cloquallum road.
He recently moved to the Washington Veteran's Home in Retsil near Port
Orchard where he died of pneumonia Tuesday May 2nd.
Hartley was born October 14th. 1919 in Olympia, Washington.
He was a son of Ernest A. (Bony) and Thelma (Brown) Loertscher of
Goose Prairie out ttighland Road.
H. A. Loertscher served six years in the Coast Guard during World
War II. He spent some time in Alaska and 1 1A years in the Central
Pacific Theater.
The Coast Guard was under the command of the Navy and involved
in all amphibious invasions. Loertscher was the chief commissary
steward on a 327-foot LST. a landing ship that carried 700 troops. He
was in charge of the food supply and cooking. He was Chief Petty
Officer when he was discharged in 1945.
In 1941 Hartley married Lola Cox of Elma, in California when he
was stationed at Point Reyes. They had 2 children, Dennis and Kay. As
a civilian, he worked in the Simpson Mill and later ran his brother. Ernie's
lumber mill at Buck's Prairie. In the 1960's. he was assistant food manager
for the Washington Corrections Center. Later he transferred to Green Hill School in
Chehalis as food manager of the institution. He retired in 1979.
Hartley enjoyed farming his 40 acres in the Isabella Valley for 60 years. He milked cows. had a few beef, and
grew fruits and berries, which became the center of his wine making hobby. He made 17 different kinds of wine
from apple to zin. The family favorite was a sparkling raspberry.
Hartley Loertscher worked with the Salmon Enhancement Group to re-establish the return of the salmon to
Gosnell Creek. which ran though his farm. He managed a salmon egg incubator on a side stream there.
Hartley and Lola traveled in their camper extensively thropghout North America. He was a member of the Sons
of the Pioneers and United States LST Association-Washington State Chapter.
Once Hartley moved to the retirement home to give Lola. his wife, a vacation from 60 years of farm chores,
he waged war on scotch broom. He eliminated several acres of it by hand around Shelton. The Mason County
Commissioners and the Noxious Weed Control Board honored him for his efforts on his 90th birthday.
Hartley was the patriarch of the Loertscher Family. He was preceded in death by his siblings. Ruth Blundon.
Rudolf. Bernard and Ernest Loertscher and his great-grandson, Samuel Bamford.
Hartley Loertscher is survived by: Lola Loertscher, his wife. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary last
June. Lola now lives in the Washington Veterans Home in Retsil. His two children: Dennis and his wife,
Sandi (Mattson) of Shelton. Kay and husband Harry Hibler of poulsbo. Washington. Dennis' 5 children: Tony
Loertscher and Sara Vasquez of Shelton. Robin and husband Bill Spencer of Big Lake. Alaska. Heidi and husband
Jan Bamford on mssion in the Philippines. Andrew and wife, Lyrissa Loertscher of Ketchikan, Alaska. Kay's
daughter Katrinka Hibler and her partner Nia Wellman of Trout Lake, Washington.
Hartley had 17 great-grandchildren: Anna. Jacob. Katie. Andrew, Daniel, and David Spencer of Big Lake,
Alaska.
Emily, Eli. MacKenzie and Kirsten Loertscher of Shelton. Charlie Bamford of Idaho, James Bamford of Oregon,
and Carrie and Thomas Bamford of the Philippines. Lola and Lily Vasquez of Shelton And Juan Hibler of Trout
Lake.
There will be a Memorial Gathering at the Loertscher Farm at Noon on August 12, 2012.
Hartley was a loving husband, wonderful father and good neighbor.

Wesley E. Johnson
Wesley E. Johnson. 85. of Skokomish
Valley, Washington, passed to the
Lord on Friday, May 4th.
Wes was born October 8. 1926.
in Shelton. WA. He graduated
from Irene S. Reed High School
in 1944. Seattle Pacific College
in 1950. and Arizona State
University in 1964.
He married Peggy Wright in 1950.
and they raised their four children
in Edmonds, WA, while Wes served as a
teacher and administrator in the Seattle Public Schools.
He retired from education in 1982. and returning to the
Skokomish farm where he was raised, pursued a second
career in fanning and public service.
Among his many activities and interests, Wes served as an
elder at First Baptist Church of Shelton. on the boards of
the Peninsula Credit Union and Mason County Christian
School. and as Mason County Commissioner. While in
Edmonds, he served as a deacon and Superintendent of
a Sunday School of 800 students at Esperance Baptist
Church, and as a director of the Greater Seattle Sunday
School Association.
He loved and served the Lord and his family above all.
He is survived by his four children. Kathleen (Bruce)
Arnold. of South Hadley, MA. Gary (Linda) Johnson. of
Edmonds. Wes (Kathryn) Johnson, of Everett. WA and
Rick (Alyson) Johnson. of Matlock; 10 grandchildren.
5 great-grandchildren, his sisters Edith Johnson of
Shelton, Francis (Carl) King of Selah. WA. Esther (Don)
Cunningham of Union, WA, and brother Haldane (Pat)
Johnson of Skokomish Valley and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Johnson.
his parents. Arvid and Alvina Johnson. sister Evangeline
Miller, brother Stanley Johnson, and grandson Jeremy
Johnson.
A family graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on
Saturday, May 12th. followed by a public memorial service
at First Baptist Church of Shelton at 2:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of
Shelton and Mason County Christian School o:r your
favorite charity.
