ma Allison Christensen, a 2020 graduate of Shelton High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Fred B. Wivell American Legion Post 31 in Shelton. Vice chair George Sevier, left, and commander Dave Brown handed her the check Friday. Christensen was scheduled to travel to Moses Lake in March to compete in the group’s annual Constitutional Speech Contest, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus threat. At Shelton High School, Christensen was the NJROTC public affairs officer and unarmed drill commander. She plans to take summer classes online with Shoreline Community College, and then transfer to the University of Washington for the winter quarter. She plans to major in communications. Journal photo Gordon Weeks SCHOOL BRIEFS Three Shelton High graduates . receive scholarships Shelton High School graduates Reva Real and Kevin Major are the recipients of the Shel- ton High School 2020 H. Parry Jones scholarships. Fowler was awarded $50,000 over a four-year period, and Real and Ma- jor both received $25,000 to use over four years. The Marjory Jones Charitable Trust provides the schol~ arships to honor the fam- ily of Parry Jones, who worked for many years in the grocery department at Lumbermen’s Mercan- tile in downtown Shelton during the early 1900s. The trust gives back to the community by provid- ing scholarships to assist in the expenses for four years to students major- ing in science, technology or engineering. Fowler is interested DRIVE-IN ‘ Casi ' Fawkes ., Lluvia, ,. Garcia . in pursing a degree in mechanical aerospace engineering. She hopes to work for the jet propul- sion labs in Pasadena, California. She plans to attend the University of New Mexico and then California Polytech. Real is interested in research and wants to be a biochemical researcher. She plans to attend the University of Washing- ton. Major has been inter- ested in aerospace since he was young, and plans to pursue a career as an aerospace engineer. He plans to attend the Uni- versity of Washington. The nonprofit Shelton Schools Foundation man— ages the H. Parry Jones Scholarship. Community volunteers staff the foun- dation. Liljas earns degree at California Lutheran Anna Liljas, a 2014 graduate of Shelton High School, earned a Masters of Business Administra— tion degree from Califor- nia Lutheran University. In May, Liljas, fam- ily and friends attended a virtual commencement ceremony. Liljas completed all six years of her educa- tion at the college in Thousand Oaks, Califor- nia. At the college, she earned a Bachelor of Sci- ence degree in business and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music.
