The Shelton High School track and field program
hosted the South Sound Corfference championship
meet May 9 and 11 at Highclimber Stadium in Shel-
ton, and qualified 13 athletesfor this week's district
meet.
Shelton sophomore hurdler Victoria Silverman
set a personal record of 15.81 seconds in the girls
100-meter hurdles to win the event. Silverman also
won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.58.
"] felt extremely good about my performance,
especially about my 100-meter hurdles PR, and I
broke the sophomore class record," Silverman said.
"It's always beena dream to get 15 (seconds). but it
wouldn't be possible without my mom."
Silverman has dominated the hurdles in the ma-
jority of her meets this year, and looks to make a re-
turn appearance at the state championships with a
strong showing at the district meet.
"Before a race, I am always extremely nervous,
but when I get on the starting line, I just want to
run and finish the race," Silverman said. "The best
feeling ever is when you finished a race and PR. My
thought process before a race is to do my best, and
whatever happens, happens. My coach, Doug Sells,
always gives me the greatest talks before I run."
Silverman was the anchor runner on the High-
climbers' 400- and 800-meter relay teams that fin-
ished second and fourth, respectively, qualifying her
for four events at districts.
The 400-meter team includes Austyne Cralle,
Trinity Payment, Kamdan Nicklaus and Silverman
and finished with a time of 50.51. The 800-meter
team is Cralle, Miracle Home, Nicklaus and Silver-
man, and clocked a time of 1:50.25.
The 3A West Central/South District champion-
ships begin at 4 p.m Friday at Sunset Chevrolet Sta-
dium in Sumner and continue at 9 a.m. Saturday:
