Twelve Hoodsport Girl Scouts and a guest from a Seattle troop hiked into Lower Lena Lake on Saturday for a day's activities which included swimming in the icy lake water and cooking dinner over a campfire. The girls were accompanied by their leader, Donna Simmons, and Sue Goos and Sharon Card. The Girl Scouts made Mother's Day tray favors for senior citizens at Fir Lane Terrace Convalescent Center. - The kindergarten, first grade and second grade classes will be singing for the Hood Canal Woman's Club at its meeting today. The annual fourth, fifth and sixth grade spelling bee will be held in the Hood Canal School multi-purpose room at 9 a.m. May 25. Parents are welcome to attend. The Hood Canal PTA will meet Wednesday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. Business will include election of officers. The PTA will be honoring Mrs. Lucille Livingston who is retiring this school year. First graders in Mrs. Lucille Livingston's class had a mother's tea in their room last Friday. The children planned and executed the entire event. They made invitations, corsages and gifts for their mothers• Each child introduced his parent and himself. The program consisted of a reading demonstration prefaced with the new phonics program Alpha One, which the district adopted this year. Every child read and demonstrated some of his work. Parents were especially interested in how their child learns to read. Cake, punch, tea and coffee were served by the children to their parents and guests. Three grandmothers were present as well as 14 mothers and about 17 small brothers and sisters. Today the first graders at Hood Canal School are visiting the Skokomish Valley farm of the family. The ct).ildte will have the opportunity to jump in a hay loft, feed calves, observe milking, see tractors and farm equipment, look over the vegetable garden, take a hike along the creek and collect specimens. The day's activities will be complete with treats. Accompanying the first graders on the field trip are teachers Mrs. Maxine Peterson and Mrs. Luciile Livingston and four junior high students, Janice Laramie, Earl Freeman, Kathy James and Brian Perkins. Don and Anne Pavel and family hosted a Mother's Day outdoor barbecue dinner for their families Sunday afternoon. Children in Mrs. Irene Harvey's classroom gave their teacher a surprise birthday party last Friday.
