SAINT ANDREW'S HOUSE on the South Shore, itself a historic Hood Canal structure,
hosted a special May I event for the fledgling McReay House Museum project.
Hood Canal West:
Q&U tie the knot00
in kindergarten
By JERRI LINDLEY
There was a wedding on Fri-
day that was hosted by the kin-
dergarten class of the Hood Ca-
nal School. The children helped
in uniting two letters of the
alphabet: Q and U. This "wed-
dins" is an annual event that is
held by the kindergarten class
every year.
Timber Ware played the let-
ter U, while Riley Gray played
the letter Q. Timber was dressed
in a white wedding dress and
Riley was in bow tie, shirt and
top hat. The wedding was wit-
nessed by the letter lower case
m, played by Tristan Drinkall,
upper case B, played by Morgan
Hughes, uppercase A played by
Mariah Hicks and lower case e
played by Sophie Houston.

auction boosting the effort to
turn the dilapidated landmark
overlooking the Great Bend into
a museum and cultural arts cen-
ter.
The McReavy mansion was
opened for viewing for two
hours before the meeting, and
several people toured the house.
Fredson said all visitors seemed
enthusiastic that the proposed
museum and arts center could
be developed, and many trav-
eled to Saint Andrew's House
for a program of art, a musical
performance by Randy Baugh
and a buffet of chocolates and
fresh vegetables.
THE SAINT ANDREW'S
House itself was on display for
the evening. "The front room,
with its two-story log walls and
exposed log roof beams framing
an expansive view of Hood Ca-
nal, seemed to raise the sublime
view to art," said Fredson, local
historian and author of several
books on Mason County. Origi-
nally built in 1928 by Arthur
Symons, the property was pur-
chased in 1951 by Weyerhaeus-
er executive Norton Clapp, who
donated it to the Episcopalian
Diocese of Washington. It cur-
rently serves as a retreat center
for the diocese.
During a short discussion of
McReavy H&tse business, Fred-
son related that the foundation
now has 77 members. He stated
the group has initiated efforts to
accept the property, which in-
cludes having an Internal Rev-
enue Service-approved apprais-
al done for the current owners
- pioneer John McReavy's de-
scendants who would donate the
1890 home to the foundation.
He mentioned that a historical
structures report needed to be
completed to be able to win pres-
ervation grants.
Fredson thanked the Skokom-
ish Indian Tribe for its gener-
ous $5,000 contribution to the
project and then introduced the
program for the evening, which
featured an auction of museum-
quality artwork by Leggett and
the two Skokomish artists.
The artists introduced them-
selves and told a little about the
art pieces, how the ideas were
conceived and how they chose
the medium and then a little
on how they work in the medi-
um, be it Leggett's seriography
called, "Skokomish River Dogs,"
or the Wilbur-Peterson piece,
etched on curved glass.
THE AUCTION raised hun-
dreds of dollars, and several new
members joined the McReavy
House foundation. Fredson said
the foundation now has raised
about $10,000 and has grant up-
McReavy House preservation formation, call 898-1717. Carlson. He read aloud from a that they got."
