On May 7, the Highclimbers competed in the first day of the 4A Narrows League Tournament at Lake Spanaway. There, Alec Martinson shot a 75 while Zaeh Lund shot a 78 and Grant Cation shot an 80. All three qualified for the second day. Marcus Browning shot an 87 and Tyler Matlock and Mitchell DeAndre both shot a 91. These three scores were too high to qualify for the second day of competition. On May 9, Martinson, Lund and Cation competed in the second day of the 4A Nar- rows League Tournament at Lake Span- away. Martinson shot the best score of the sec- ond day with a 70 while Lurid shot a 73. Both qualified directly for the 4A WIAA State Boys' Golf Tournament. Cation shot a 76 to qualify for the 4A West Central Dis- trict 3 Tournament. "Alec and Zack had a really good league tournament," SHS head boys' golf coach Mark Jensen said. "Alec had the best round the second day and you can't complain about that. Zach had a good second day, too." On Monday, Cation competed at districts where he shot an 85, two strokes too high to qualify for state. "Grant didn't have his best day," Jen- sen said. "Gold Mountain is a tough course and they played summer rules, which we haven't don't a lot because of the weather. The course had dried out and it was harder to stop the ball." Martinson and Lund are scheduled to compete at state which begins on May 22 at Hangman Valley Golf Course in Spokane. If they score high enough, they'll move on to the second day of state on May 23. "You never know how they'll do at state," Jensen said. "At that level, you have to have two really good days. I've heard the course is nice and pretty tough." He said that he thinks Martinson and Lund are prepared for state mentally. "They've been playing well the last few weeks," Jensen said. Prior to districts, on Friday, the High- climbers competed at the Duke Streeter In- vitational at Peninsula Country Club. The Shelton boys won the invitational as a team with a total score of 211. Play was done in a two person scramble. Martinson and Lund took second by shoot- ing 67, five under par. Cation and DeAndre paired up to shoot 70 while Browning and Mitchell shot a 74.
