'A time for remembering'
North Mason residents are scheduled to celebrate
the 12th annual "A Time for Remembering," set aside
to remember those who sacrificed their lives for Amer-
ica's freedoms and to honor local Veterans and Active
Military. All Armed Forces will be recognized and
thanked, with emphasis this year on veterans of the
"forgotten" conflicts: Korea, the Lebanon Conflicts,
Cuban Crisis, Dominican Intervention, Granada, Bei-
rut, Panama, Persian Gulf Desert Storm, Somalia
Mission, Yugoslavia (Kosovo) and equally important,
those who served at home and during non-conflict pe-
riods.
This event is scheduled to start at noon on Memo-
rial Day, May 30, at the Gazebo at Allyn Waterfront
Park in Allyn.
This event is sponsored by Allyn Community Asso-
ciation in partnership with North Mason Chamber of
Commerce and the Port of Allyn.
At noon, the flag at the park will be raised to full
staff, signaling the start of the remembrance. Every-
one is invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy under
the gazebo while listening to the tunes by I'he Wind-
jammers,~ a community band led by Start Yantis.
There will be a media presentation featuring
glimpses from past celebrations during this hour.
Veterans are encouraged to bring photos and memo-
rabilia of their military service. Display boards and
tables will be available for items. At 1 p.m., Vietnam
veteran Richard Bell will host the microphone, invit-
ing veterans to share their experiences. At the end
of the ceremony, the ranks =fall in" and march to the
waterfront to place a memorial wreath in North Bay
in remembrance of all those who have made the ulti-
