Charles Collier dies
Graveside services for Charles
V. Collier, 63, of LakeLand
Village, Allyn, will be at I 1 a.m.
Friday at Arlington National
Cemetery.
He was dead on arrival at
Bremerton Naval Hospital May 15
after suffering a heart attack.
He was born July 1 l, 191 l, in
Jackson, Ga.
He came to Allyn three and
one-half years ago from
Huntington Beach, Calif. He
retired in 1971 as a brigadier
general after 34 years in the U.S.
Army.
Survivors include his wife,
Carmen P., of the family home;
one son, Charles V. III,
Washington, D.C.; and two
grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the
direction of Miller-Woodlawn
Funeral Home.

An open house held last
Sunday at their North Shore
home and a family dinner party
held May 11 at the Commissioned
Officers Club at Puget Sound
Naval Shipyard honored Mr. and
Mrs. Arney Robin Colby for their
golden anniversary. The couple
was married May 15, 1925, at the
First Methodist Church in
Olympia. She is the former
Charlotte Paab.
The dinner party was hosted
by the couple's son, Lt. Col.
Dwain Arney Colby and his wife,
Ruth, of Seattle. Among the 50
guests was one who had attended
the Colbys' wedding, Mrs. K. S.
Spence of Yakima, a sister-in-law
of Mr. Colby.
The open house was hosted
by Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Schopf,
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Warfield and
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Morris.
The Colbys lived in Tacoma
from 1933 until his retirement in
1971 when they moved to Belfair.
They have maintained their
Tacoma home. He worked as an
automobile dealer except during
World War 1[ when he was
superintendent in charge of all
rolling stock maintenance and
processing of equipment for the
overseas war zones at the Navy
Supply Depot in Lakeview. She
was employed as an interviewer
for the Tacoma Housing
Authority for 12 years and
secretary for the Clover Park
School District for 14 years.
They are members of the First
Methodist Church of Tacoma and
both have taught Sunday school
and served on the board of the
church. Mrs. Colby is past
president of the Women's Society
of Christian Service and taught
Sunday school several years prior
to World War 11 at the Japanese
Mission Church. She is a past
president of the Tacoma Club of
Business and Professional Women
and past president of Tacoma
Council, Business and Professional
Women. He is a member of State
Lodge No. 68, F. & A.M. of
Tacoma.
The couple has one
granddaughter, Mrs. Christopher
(Kristine) Arney of Portland, Ore.
