en route
to state?
By DEAN SIEMON
After the first day of
the 2A West Central Dis-
trict softball tournament at
8prinker Recreation Com-
plex in Tacoma, North Ma-
son High School looked like
their hot streak would con-
tinue.
With a 26-3 win over Sum-
ner High School on Friday
and a 6-1 win over Franklin
Pierce only a few hours later,
the Lady Bulldogs (13-10)
clinched a berth into the 2A
state championship tourna-
ment for the 12th straight
season.
But on the second day of
districts, North Mason suf-
fered two losses to finish
with a fourth-seed heading
into the state tournament
on May 27 and 28 at Carlon
Park in Selah.
On Saturday, North Ma-
son lost 13-3 to White River
High School (15-4) in the dis-
trict tournament's semifinal
round, where the Hornets
collected 22 hits to the Lady
Bulldogs'eight.
North Mason head coach
Molleigh Fusare said that
the emotion from Friday may
have fizzled on Saturday.
"They really extended
themselves on Friday be-
cause they did not have a lot
of energy on Saturday," she
said.
Fusare said another fac-
tor in the 13-3 loss was that
White River's pitcher threw
at a much slower pace,
which threw off the offensive
rhythm built up in the last
two weeks.
"We took too long to make
the adjustments we needed
to," Fusare said.
In a match for third and
fourth place, North Mason
lost to Olympic League rival
Port Angeles High School
(i9-3), 7-4.
Tristan St~omberg
pitched the entire game and
gave up 11 hits and six of the
runs were earned.
Fusare said that Amanda
Johnson had pitched a lot of
innings in recent weeks and
Stromborg was a capable
starting pitcher.
"We have two very capa-
ble pitchers," she said.
The Lady Bulldogs are
scheduled to face Centralia
High School in the opening
round at noon on May 27 at
Carlon Park.
Depending on how the
first round goes, North Ma-
son could have a rematch
against White River in their
second game.
"I would love the oppor-
tunity to play White River
again," Fusare said. "I feel
pretty confident that we can
boat them."
Fusare said North Ma-
son's passion that was seen
on Friday should be back as
the pressure on the team to
win returns.
"We just have to play our
game and we have to go up
