75 YEARS OF HISTORY--No
one disputed the choice of the
Simpson Timber Company's tre.
mendous float as grand sweep-
stakes winner in the Paul Bun-
yan Parade. The company's 75
years of life is depicted in the
transition from ox-team logging
in the 1890s, when Simpson em-
ployed 30 men, to today's world-
wide organization staffed by
over 6,000 workers. Children on
the float were sons and daugh-
ters of Simpson employes and
their costumes illustrate the
change in our people over the
past three-quarters of a century.
The float, 48 feet long and 16
feet wide, was designed and built
by Jerry Johnson, Simpson per-
sonnel supervisor, assisted by
Rudy Holmes and Clarence
Faulkner of Simpaon's railroad
division, Lucky Larson and Ev.
erett Melton of Central Shops,
and Susan Mr,oz, Shelton school
act teacher. The float will ap-
pear later in the McCleary 2nd
Growth & Bear Festival, the
MonteSano Dairy Festival, and
the Olympia Lakefair.
