Shrimp fishers will
get another chance
Fishers caught 5,457 pounds

Cain said there were 468 boats
on the water on May 23, the fifth
and last day of the regular season,
and the catch rate was 3.3 pounds
per pot as compared to 4.4 pounds
on May 25, 2005. Last year's season
was limited to four days of shrimp-
ing.
So far this year, Cain and the
other resource managers have
counted 5,340 boats, for a daily av-
erage of 1,068. There were 1,544
boats counted by aircraft on May
5, the first day of shrimping and
5,944 people fishing. The aver-
age catch per boat has been 13.4
pounds, with 15.3 pounds per boat
recorded on opening day.

sunny skies on Thursday with a
high near 79 degrees. There should
be increasing clouds Thursday night
with a low around 49.
Friday through Saturday night
should be partly cloudy with tem-
peratures climbing into the 80s over
the weekend. Highs should be near
75 degrees on Friday and 81 on Sat-
urday with a low around 50 degrees
Friday night and 49 Saturday night.
Forecasters expect mostly cloudy
conditions Sunday and Sunday night
with a high near 73 degrees and a
low around 49 degrees.
There is a chance of" showers in
the extended forecast for Monday
through Tuesday with cloudy skies
on Monday giving way to mostly
cloudy conditions Monday night and
Tuesday. The highs should be near
68 Monday and 66 on Tuesday with
a low Monday night around 46 de-
grees.
Shelton Rotary awards scholarships
The Shelton Rotary Club has
awarded college scholarships to
four local high-school seniors.
The recipients include Curtis
Trondsen and Richard James Ware
Jr., both of Shelton High School,
who each will receive a $1,000
scholarship; Jennitbr E. Hoss, also
of SHS, who is the Tom Spikes Me-
morial Scholar ibr 2007 and will
receive a $1,000 scholarship; and
Kandace Ewing of CHOICE Alter-
native School, who will receive a
$500 scholarship.
The scholarships were presented
during the Senior Awards Night at
SHS on Thursday, May 24. Mar-
gie Spikes, widow of the late Tom
Spikes, made the memorial schol-
arship presentation in his name.
Tom Spikes was a member of
Shelton Rotary, a past president
of the club and a local banker. As
a result of his commitment to the
community, the club named one of
its scholarships in his honor.
