This beautiful three acre site
has a wide variety of plant and
animal life. Red alder, maple, and
Douglas fir shade the area, while
assorted fern and Oregon grape
provide ground cover. Deer, elk,
bear, cougar and bobcat may also
be found in the area. If you like
to fish, Lilliwaup Creek provides
some excellent trout fishing.
This peaceful setting nestled
against the rugged grandeur of the
Olympics is ideal for picn!cking,
fishing, and viewing the wbnders
of nature. There are picnic tables
and sanitary facilities available for
your convenience.
The Department of Natural
Resources is also proposing four
more recreation areas located in
Mason and Kitsap counties. These
areas will offer more recreation
enjoyment for everyone.
The first one is the Howell
Lake camp and picnic area
located 15 miles south-west of
Bremerton. The area will offer an
unspoiled view of the Olympics
pen
and good trout fishing too.
The Tahuya River Area located
nearby among Douglas fir and
willow would provide good
camping as well as steelhead
fishing. Deer and small game roam
the area in abundance.
The DeWatto Bay camp and
picnic area will have a double
bonus. In addition to providing a
breath-taking view of the
Olympics and the Hood Canal, it
will have boat launching facilities
for water sports. This area will be
developed 14 miles west of Belfair
along Hood Canal.
Finally there is the Green
Mountain scenic picnic area. This
picturesque spot is located 12
miles west of Bremerton at the
site of an abandoned lookout
tower. It will treat you to an eye
opening view of the Bremerton
Valley, the Olympics, Mt. Rainier,
and the surrounding countryside.
All of these sites can be easily
reached and offer unlimited
potential for recreational use.

The Simpson Recreation
Association held its annual
cleanup day at Mason Lake, May
16. More than 200 members
worked throughout the day
cleaning, painting the facilities
and installing new floats along the
waterfront.
The high point of the day was
the raising of the American flag
on a new flag pole overlooking
the lakefront. The flag salute was
led by the Girl Scout Troop No.
603 from Shelton.
The installation of the flag
pole was done by S.R.A.
members. The pole was donated
by Kenneth W. Frank, local
businessman, as a gesture to help
display our Nation's colors. The
flag was sent to the Association
by Congresswoman Julia Butler
Hanson, who stated the flag had
flown over the Nation's Capitol at
one time.
A workman's lunch was
served to the members at noon,
