each of the coaches for each of
the sports. Two fall sports were
added to the list, girls' tennis and
cross country.
Mrs. Ruth Willard, the girls'
tennis coach, feels that the team
will have a good nucleus next
year. They will lose their number
one player, Sandy Pozorski, to
graduation, but they have several
promising underclassmen coming
up. The team was 6-3 this year.
Next year, the Highclimbers will
be moving to a new league in all
sports.
Another fall sport coach,
Lowell Stewart of cross country,
introduced his squad that was 6-4
on the year and won six meets in
a row. They lost only one meet
on the home course. Stewart
announced that sophomore Rich
James was the Most Improved
Runner. James started out the
year behind some upperclassmen,
and ended up the season as the
Climbers' number one man. Jim
Connolly, a senior, was the
captain.
Rodger Tuson introduced his
golf team, and his captain for this
year, senior Steve Bostrom.
Bostrom shot the best round of
any of the Climbers at the State
tournament. The number one and
number two players were Bob
Turner and Rich Walker, not
necessarily in that order, since
they switched back and forth
several times.
Randy Lewis was elected
captain of the track team by his
team mates. Coach Bill Brickert
introduced his squad. Lewis has
been the high pointmaker on the
team for the last two seasons, and
won district in the pole vault this
year. Assistant coach Walt
Clayton gave Randy his champion
gold track shoe, stating simply
that to earn this shoe, "You have
to be a champion." The
inspirational trackman to the
squad was senior Paul Brigham.
The Climbers were 4-3 in league
track.
A1 Hopp, the tennis coach in
his first year, announced that the
Most Valuable Player was senior
Steve Evander. Hopp enjoyed

Another first year coach, Ron
Ellis, announced three awards
that the baseball team was giving.
Pitchers Brad Jones and Jim
Corey were elected co-captains.
Both of them were selected to the
Feeder game in Bremerton last
Saturday and both were
All-League choices. They each
own a no-hitter, the only two in
the Olympic League this year.
The Inspirational player for
the diamondmen was the smallest
man on the team, Elmer Herrel.
The Most Improved Trophy went
to senior Brad Bransford. Ellis'
troops were 11-8 on the year.
Andrea Hill commented that
her girls' track team had a
mini-season. By that she meant
that the girls' had only one meet,
the Elma Invitational. One girl
lettered in girls' track this year.
She won the 880 at the
Invitational. Karen Johnson was
the only letterwinner in the first
year of that sport at Shelton High
School.
