It has been revealed recently
that the CIA plotted with the
Mafia to kill Fidd Castro in 1961.
Do you approve of your
government taking such action?
Nearly all of those
approached in this week's Journal
poll did not approve. With the

A housing authority, formed
by four Indian tribes, including
the Skokomish and Squaxin in
Mason County, has been allocated
43 housing units it was
announoed this week.
The two local tribes along
with the Nisqually and
Sholewater Bay Tribes, joined
together to form the housing
authority to apply to the
Department of Housing and
Urban Development for housing
to be built on their reservations.
The two local tribes are
accepting applications from those
qualified, according to Gary
Peterson, from the Skokomish
Tribal Center.
Peterson said applications
must be in to the tribes by June
10 and submitted to HUD by
June 15.
The program is for home
ownership, and eligibility is
dctgrmir~d on income and family
size, Peterson said.
He said tribal members who
are interested in moving to the
reservation can apply. If they do
not have a building site, he said,
there is some tribal land available
for building sites.
Under the program, he said,
HUD makes loans to the housing
authority which then builds the
houses. The people who purchase
them then pay the money back to
HUD.
Peterson said after the four
tribes get applications from their
members in, the housing
authority will then allocate the 43
units among the four tribes.
Peterson said the tribes were
interested in getting as many
eligible persons as possible to
apply.

exception of two out of 13
persons, the on-the-street poll
showed that people feel the
government does not have the
right to take that kind of action.
Some of those disapproving
said it is not our business; some
said they do not approve of
murder; others said that the CIA
was not created as a "murder
corporation."
One person in definite
approval felt the Cuban missile
crisis necessitated such action.
Florence Smith, retired, 2229
Walker Park Rd. - No. I really
don't think they have the right to
kill anybody. I don't believe in it.
L. C. McCowan, retired
sawmill worker, Rt. 3. - No. !
don't think so. 1 don't think they
have the right to do that. it just
doesn't look right.
J. H. Vinton, photographer,
Rt. 4 - Yes, I go along with that
because l think at that time
Castro planned to go in with the,
Russians to destroy the United
States by putting in a missile base.
Marie Kneeland, housewife,
Rt. 2, Box 61A - No, 1 don't. It's
not right. It's not our business.
We have our own problems. We
should stay home and mind our
own business.
Peggy McGee, housewife,
1819 King - No,but 1 can believe
they would have done it. I'm glad
that Kennedy didn't give the
approval. I don't approve of
murdering.
Lori Engebretson, high school
student, 927 Franklin - No,
because I don't think we had any
right to interfere. They have to
get used to taking care of their
own government and I think we
interfered too much.
Russ Morken, mill worker,
2212 Laurel - If it would have
been a matter of saving our own
country, I'm for it. But if it was
just a political move, I don't. I
think it's the government's
decision. But I don't think it
should be one outfit's decision
like the CIA.
Joyce Scott, homemaker, Rt.
5, Box 518 - No, definitely not.
It isn't honest.
Harley Wiveil, evergreen
worker, Rt. 3, Box 805A - No.
Look what happened. They (the
Cubans) can turn around and
retaliate. There was a rumor that
Kennedy was assassinated by
Castro's administration. The story
originated in North Korea. It's
been a long time, but I believe
they were North Koreans
captured by the South Koreans.
They boasted that the
communists in Cuba had
assassinated Kennedy. There's a
possibility it was true. One small
communist country next to the
United States isn't going to
threaten us too much; although I
don't endorse a communist
government in Cuba.
Frank Schroeder, pond man
helper, Rt. 2, Box 804 - No, I
don't think I do. I don't think
they should plot like that. It's
been coming out in the news that
the CIA has been involved in a lot
of things. They should be
Q. What's worse than breaking in a new
pair of cork boots?
A. Nothing. First you spend about a
hundred bucks for 'em and then for a
couple of weeks they beat your dogs
to death.
There's an answer. We can take your
comfortable old clodhoppers and make
them like new. We'll fix everything,
including heels and toe-caps. You save a
bundle of cash and your feet will love
you for it!

involved outside of our country,
but I don't think they should go
that far to set up a murder
corporation.
Mary Hurlbett, high school
student, P.O. Box 725 - No. 1
don't think it's right to plot to
kill anybody.
Alice Parish, housewife,
Lilliwaup - Absolutely not. I
don't feel that anybody has the
right to go into another country
and kill their leader regardless of
whether their political views agree
with ours or not. Besides, that's
not the CIA's job per se. That
isn't what they were created for.
Elder Goodson, missionary,
1315 Jefferson - No. because l
don't think they have the right to
go in and set up for someone to
be killed.
