volleyball games have become a
weekly event featuring local stars
like Richard Brewer and Dan
Baker. Richard and Dan will take
on all challengers. Kitty Martino
and Mary Oblizalo are referees.
Mary commented that the games
have been so outstanding that
passing motorists have stopped to
play a few volleys until being sent
on their way in defeat.
There will be an open house
party in honor of Richard Bates
at the Hood Canal School June 5,
7 to 9 p.m. Bates is retiring after
many years of teaching in the
Hood Canal area.
Jean Moore's second grade
class had a special field trip last
week. Alice Snufrm joined the
class in the morning and they
went foraging for edible wild
salad greens in the woods behind
the school, Alice is an expert
guide in finding edibles in our
woods. Her wild dinners are a rare
and wondrous treat. After a sack
lunch picnic, the class returned to
school to concoct and sample the
salad. Alice ended the field trip
with a demonstration in the art of
making soap.
If you're making plans on
how to spend the next hot
weekend, try this. Last Saturday
morning, Mick Keenan and Mike
Moore climbed The Brothers and
skied down. Avalanche danger
kept them from climbing to the
summit but they found the view
spectacular anyway.

wasn't exactly racking up
Brownie points.
"What's the little creature's

effort to regain lost ground.
'alt!y Bitty Kitty," I stated
with a ~;ery straight face.
An undisguised look of
near-nausea caused the
countenance of this callous male
to become even less attractive
than usual.
"'ltty Bitty Kitty!'" he
reiterated in contemptuous
disgust. "The animal is a
psychopathic horror! And under
your specialized tutorage he'll no
doubt mature into a veritable
20-pound monster."
"Just call me Frankenstein," I
smiled smugly.
