Kitty Martino and Mary Oblizalo are referees. Mary commented that the games have been so outstanding that passing motorists have stopped to play a few volleys until being sent on their way in defeat. There will be an open house party in honor of Richard Bates at the Hood Canal School June 5, 7 to 9 p.m. Bates is retiring after many years of teaching in the Hood Canal area. Jean Moore's second grade class had a special field trip last week. Alice Snufrm joined the class in the morning and they went foraging for edible wild salad greens in the woods behind the school, Alice is an expert guide in finding edibles in our woods. Her wild dinners are a rare and wondrous treat. After a sack lunch picnic, the class returned to school to concoct and sample the salad. Alice ended the field trip with a demonstration in the art of making soap. If you're making plans on how to spend the next hot weekend, try this. The schools are very academic with no emphasis on sports. There are community clubs for football and other games." Janette was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 30, 1956. She started school in Louisiana, later moving to the State of Washington and arriving in Shelton when she was 11 years of age. She has three sisters and three brothers, all older than herself, , .... Hobbies include sewing, cooking and many arts and crafts. Mach I Spotlight She is fond of animals, and household pets are two dogs, six cats, two parakeets and tropical fish. Throughout her high school years Janette has been a member of American Field Service and in her senior year served as president of the organization. For almost three years she was a Candy-Striper. She has been secretary of Girls' Club and a member of Honor Society. As a senior she has studied economics, senior English, psychology and advanced art. She is employed as a waitress in the Timbers Restaurant. Janette Mach will attend Shoreline Community College to major in medicine. "1 hope to be a doctor," she says, "but I don't know.., it takes a long time. "I enjoy travel," ,she adds, "and 1 like to meet new people. 1 will definitely want to work with people and to help them."
