On Thursday, April 14, the Shelton High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) conducted their Annual Area Manager's Inspection and Change of Command ceremony. Commander Freedman from Se- attle spent the day with Lt. Com- mander Thien and conducted an inspection of the unit and cadets. Family and friends attended a performance of the 19-member Armed Drill Team's regulation and exhibition routines, a Change of Command Ceremony and a con- cluding Pass and Review for Com- mander Freedman. Cadet Com- manding Officer, William Reming- ten, relinquished command of the NJROTC unit to Cadet It. Corn- mander, Amanda Thomson. Also during this ceremony, Cadet Lieu- tenant Shad Johnson became the new Executive Officer. Amanda, a junior at Shelten High School has been in NJROTC since her freshman year. She is the first-squad leader of the Armed Drill Team, the guide for the Un- armed Drill Team and the Organi- zational Flag bearer on the compe- tition color guard. Prior to taking command of the unit, Amanda has served as Supply Officer, Academics Officer and Assistant Administra- tive Offcer. . In addition to her activities with NJROTC, Amanda is a running start student, is in the National Honor So- ciety, and has served as President and Reporter for her FFA chapter. Shad, also a junior at Shelton High School, has been in NJROTC since his freshman year. He is the third-squad leader of the Armed Drill Team, the Commander of the Unarmed Drill Team and Com- mander of the competition Color Guard. He has also served as As- sistant Operations Officer and Ordi- nance Officer. In his free time, Shad has become a certified diver and is also a mem- ber of the National Honor Society. "Amanda and Shad look forward to leading the unit and passing on all the valuable skills they have le~ed through this program," said Booster Club ~etary, Hel- en Thomson.
