ages nine to 19.

Jess' swept a Puget Sound
League double-header from the
OK Roofers last Tuesday in
Shelton, but what looked like an
easy evening in the opener turned
out to be anything but that in the
nighcap.
In the opener Jess' scored two
second-inning runs when Jon
Armstrong doubled, advanced on
a wild pitch and scored when Bill
Nutt reached on an in-field error.
Jerry Baker doubled to score
Nutt.
Bob Miller led off the fourth
with a single and went to second
when the right fielder misplayed
the ball. When Tom Fredson's
grounder was thrown away, Miller
crossed the plate. After Fredson
was caught off base Rob Mills
singled, advanced on an in-field
out and scored on Lynn Spilseth's
single. Armstrong followed with a
blast over the left field fence to
close out the inning.
Jess' added two more in the
fifth when Fredson singled, Tom
Marshall reached base on an error
and Armstrong followed with a
single, his third straight hit.
Bill Nutt held the Roofers to
just three singles and contributed
a double.
In the second game Jess'
broke first with two runs in the
second. Tom Fredson led off the
inning with a home run and
Armstrong tripled two outs later.
Scan Byrne reached the
quarterfinals of the boys' 12 and
under group.
Hopp said this weekend
several players from the advanced
group will be performing in a
tourney in Ashland, Oregon. Then
next week, they'll compete in Los
Angeles. Other tournament stops
during the summer will be
Albany, Oregon, Portland,
Yakima, Tacoma, Bremerton and
Seattle. The group will also get
some international experience
when it plays in the British
Columbia Junior Clay Court
Tennis Championships in
Vancouver at the end of July.
July 2 and 3 will be Shelton's
turn to host a tournament when
the Shelton Junior Tennis
Invitational is held.
For more information, Hopp
can be reached at 426-5012. He
said each student in the program
should bring a racket, a can of
tennis balls and tennis shoes.
Pep Nutt's single brought him in.
The Roofers came back with
four of their own in the top of
the third. Kevin Dorcy doubled
and Mike Mills drew a walk.
Roger Hoff singled to load the
bases and Jim Richards drove one
over the outfield fence 'for a
grand-slam home run.
Joe Earl led off the third with
a walk and Bob Miller's homer
made it 4-4. Fredson doubled and
scored two outs later when
Armstrong reached base on an
error.
The Roofers tied the score in
the top of the fifth when
Richards walked and eventually
came around on Jerry Drescher's
single.
Jess' scored the clincher in
their half of the inning when
Miller tripled and scored on
Fredson's single.
Miller collected four
the evening, including a
a home run; Fredson
hits, three singles and a
and Armstrong had a
double, a triple and a
Drescher led the
three hits in five trips.
