YATES
- Last Friday
the Harstine Community
the scene of a good-sized
of island folk anxious
to be entertained by the
gang.

Also absent from the
night production was
A big thanks goes
to Cheryl WaSte and Pat Dunlap
who stepped in at the last minute
to help out. Thora Seward took
Ethel's place in the pantomime.
In a previous column I described
the production but was careful
not to mention two "surprise"
parts so that it wouldn't be
spoiled in the event the gals
repeated the show.
One of the surprise parts was
when Helen Lammers, dressed as
a man complete with a
moustache, and Thora Seward,
dressed in a long dress, entered
and waltzed around the audience.
But the addition that really
amused the audience was Maude
ParLor's impromptu "early
appearances" trying to steal the
scene with the Charleston. On
each occasion she was pushed or
motioned off stage. Finally as the
grand finale someone from the
chorus line shouted, "Now
Maude." She didn't need her arm
twisted to dash onto the stage and
do a fantastic rendition of the
roaring twenties number.
Following the entertainment
the audience headed for the
dining room for coffee and
goodies. Then most everyone
settled down for Harstine's own
version of what President Wayne
Brown called ping pang. All in all
it was a fun evening. Hopefully
there will be many similar ones in
the future.
More than 20 gall attended
the last women's club meeting
until fall. Hostess for the June
meeting was GreY Simmons. It
was a fun afternoon. There was a
discussion of needed repairs for
the hall. It was suggested a letter
be written to the community club
and the grange asking for their
suggestions and help. A
committee to meet with the
committees from the other two
clubs was named. SKirl Larson
and Carmen Yates were appointed
from the women's club. A warm
welcome to a new women's
,lubber, Luretta LaLande.
Called Ella McAuliffe Tuesday
to see how she was getting along.
She said she was coming along
just fine but would be in for a
couple more days as they are still
running tests.
Sid and Mary Baunsgard
traveled to Tacoma last week for
the graduation of their
granddaughter.
Alice and John Budd are
presently enjoying a visit with
Alice's cousin, Don Pierce, and his
wife, Marianne, who hail all the
way from Omaha, Nebraska. The
couple made the trip via bus to
the West Coast. Other than
hurrying through while in the
service, Don bad never been out
this way nor had his wife.
The sixth graders from
Pioneer School enjoYed a
graduation party' last Thursday
evening following the school
picnic. The whole class along with
their teacher, Bert Miller, and his
wife and son all came over to the
island and were the guests of the
Jack Laubacks (their son, Evan, is
also a sixth grader)at the
Hole-in-the-Wall pool, After an
invigorating swim the group
moved down to the Lauback
home on the beach for a wiener
roast complete with lots of other
food to go with the hot dogs. The
class presented Miller with a skirt
and tie as a good-bye present.

Nahwatzel and Barbara Golden of

trip to Seattle last Saturday.
While in the big city the ladies
treated themselves to lunch at the
Space Needle.
Dave and Lyn Clevenger were
guests of Lyn's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Hal Childers, for a very
special evening out on the town
to celebrate Lyn's 21st birthday.
The evening started with an
elegant dinner at the Space
Needle. After dinner the group
went to the Airport Hilton where
they spent the remainder of the
evening dancing and enjoying the
entertainment in the lounge. The
birthday celebration ended with
breakfast in the Hilton Coffee
Shop in the wee hours Sunday
morning. Lyn says there is no
doubt about it, it was the best
birthday she ever had.
I must apologize to everyone
for this skimpy bit of news this
week, seems as though I've caught
the bug that is going around and
have a galloping case of the sore
throated, caughing blahs. Will no
doubt be back to my usual gabby
self by next week.
