Billboard contest winners announced
Katelyn Miller, a 5th
grader in Mrs. Gagnon's
class at Mt. View Elemen-
tary in Shelton, ~was re-
cently awarded the grand
prize in the recent Forest
Festival Field Day bill-
board contest sponsored by
Green Diamond Resource
Company, according to
spokosperson Patti Case.
The award included repro-
duction of Miller's artwork
into an actual billboard,
currently displayed at two
sites in the Shelton area.
In addition, Miller won art
supplies, a framed copy of
her winning billboard, and
a scholarship for art class-
es through Shelton Parks
and Recreation's summer
programs.

of over 150 young artists'
entries. "Our theme this
year was Trees: Grown
Here, Used Everywhere,~
explained Case. "It was
a challenging theme to
illustrate in a way that
engages the traveling
public," she added. "Miller
chose bright colors and
stayed with the forest en-
vironment, creating an
eye-catching illustration,"
said Case.
Samantha Samples,
from Sue Pittman's fiith
grade class at Bordeaux
Elementary, received the
People's Choice Award,
voted upon by nearly 1000
community members
leading up to and during
Forest Festival.
Honorable mention
awards went to Molly
Gregory, from Mark Lar-
son' Mt. View class; and
Joseph Hernandez and
Celine Pinney, both from
Kati Gregory's class at Mt.
View. Highlighting their
efforts and art supplies to
continue their artistic en-
deavors, while the teach-
ers were provided gh~
cards for school supplies.
The students were giv-
en plaques. The billboard
competition was created to
provide an artistic outlet
to demonstrate what stu-
dents learned during the
llth annual Forest Festi-
val Field Day outdoor ex-
perience, said Case.
