Sex offender accused of not registering He faces new charge of child rape By MARY DUNCAN A convicted sex offend- er accused of residing in Mason County since De- cember without register- ing with the sheriffs of- fice appeared Tuesday in Mason County Superior Court. Jeffrey Allen Wies, 32, of 261 East Lakeshore Drive West, Shelton, was arraigned on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender. He pled not guilty and is scheduled for trial dur- ing the jury term begin- ning August 4. Wies is be- ing held on $7,500 bail. Wies is required to register as the result of a conviction in March 1993 in King County of child molestation in the first degree and incest in the second degree. According to court documents, he had been living at the Lakeshore address for three to four days per week every week since December 2008. When he was contacted there this month he re- portedly told officers he didn't think he had to register because he was registered in Snohomish County and he thought he only had to register in this county if he was here for two straight weeks. Wies was also identi- fled in an investigation of rape of a child in the third degree. He is sus- pected of having consen- sual sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl on several occasions between December 2008 and May of this year. Judge Toni Sheldon set bail at $25,000, appoint- ed Ron Sergi as defense counsel and scheduled ar- raignment for June 23.
