Fire 12 releases report By Matt Baide matt@masoncounty. com After multiple delays-, Fire Dis— trict 12 commissioners have released a report on the results of an internal investigation. The investigation, posted last week on the district’s website, was conduct— ed in response to an accountability au— dit and'fraud investigation reports re- leased by the state Auditor’s Office in September 2022. Attorney Thomas G. Burke com— piled a 26-page report. The summary of the report says Fire 12’s.“consistent failure to provide supporting data is an ‘unwilling or unable’ scenario, but it is 'a clear frustration for the SAO and for me.” Burke’s summary goes on to question how the auditor’s office conducted the investigation and how it broadcast its report. ' “The actions and lack of follow-up by the SAO do not promote an objec- tive inquiry and reasonable fact—find- ing for the allegations against the dis trict,” the report states. “In this small— town atmosphere, they only inflamed personal animosities and made an ob— jective investigation more difficult.” The Journal emailed Burke ques- tions about his report, but learned he died last month. Brian Snure, the dis- trict’s attorney, responded to the ques- tions and provided the documentation COUNTY Belfalr woman Injured In SR 3 crash A 63—year—old Belfair woman was . injured in a state Route 3 crash Tues- day morning near Bremerton. ‘ According to a news release, a 20—year-old Bremerton woman driv- ing a 2006 Dodge was entering Route 3 as the Belfa-ir woman, driving a 2004 Saturn, was northbound in the. right lane on Route 3. The Dodge left the road, crossed the onramp gore point and struck the Saturn. Both vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder. The Bremerton woman was not injured in the accident. The Belfair woman was transported to St. Mi— chael’s Hospital in Silverdale. Klusman acquires John L. Scott Shelton Kris Klusman is the new owner of the John L. Scott office in Shelton. According to a news release, Klus— man has 18 years of experience as a broker and office leader throughout Mason County. Former owner Jamie Mell led the office for the past five years before the June acquisition. Mell will stay on the board as a broker and said she looks forward to her continued in- volvement in real estate. Prior to real estate, Klusman and his wife owned coffee houses in Puget Sound before opening a real estate brokerage, Preferred Real Estate Group, in 2005. Now the leader of the Belfair and Shelton John L. Scott offi— cers, he also works as a middle school football coach. Car rolls off state Route 3 A 60-year—old Bremerton man . was injured. in a one-car accident on state Route 3 on June 15 just south of'Allyn. The community expects transparen- cy and accountability in government operations.” ' Vacancy filled The commissioners had a regular meeting Tuesday in Matlock and ap— pointed Cinda Compton to a commis’ sion position vacated after John Pais resigned June 9. Commissioner Albert “Buck” Wild- ‘er said there were two applicants. Compton filed to run for Commis- sioner Wilder’s seat once it is vacated in January, and Wilder decided not to run for re-election. Along with Comp.- ton, two other candidates are running for Wilder’s seat. With the primary vote Aug. 1, it is unclear if she isable to run for Wilder’s seat now that she has been appointed to Pais’ vacated position. man was driving a 2001 Toyota northbound at milepost 19. The Toy— ota left the road to the right, rolled and ended up in the middle of the road. The Toyota had been driving erratically prior to the collision, ac— cording to the report. The road was blocked for an hour. The driver was transported to Mason General Hospital and was charged with a DUI. New hours at Sheriff’s Office The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is updating its office hours to 10 a.m. I to 4 pm. Monday through Friday. According to a news release, the hours will begin July and it’s just a change to the walk-in services hours. There have been challenges due to understaffing in the office and to ad- dress the issue and ensure MCSO can focus on mandated duties without interruptions. Sheriff’s Office , K9 Deimos needs surgery The Mason County Sheriff’s Of- fice is asking for donations for K9 Deimos, a 5—year—old German Shep- herd with the Mason County Sheriffs Office. According to a social media post, MRI results from Friday confirmed Deimos has two herniated discs and needs surgery. Deimos was jumping into the patrol car when he experi- enced lameness in his hindquarters. He was taken to the Vet and was able to get an MRI. 'As a program primarily supported by public donations, Deputy Taylor is seeking donations to help Deimos return to action. As of Tuesday, Dei- mos has received $11,173 in dona- tions, slightly more than the goal of $11,000.
