SHELTON-.--MASON :IOURNAE-- Publiglietl in SheRon, Washlng n
ly 63 million acres of commercial timberlands, owned by for-
est products companies such as the Simpson Timber Com-
pany, Rayonier, Weyerhaeuser and others are open to the
public for recreation. Other industries such as coal, steel,
and pctroleum permit public usc of their lands for recrea-
tion.
And what's:, wrong with the farmer making a tittle extra
money by penuitting public use of his lands for hunting,
fishing, camping and other forms of outdoor recreation? A
recent public opninion survey showed people do not object
to paying a fee for these privileges.
For the federal government to take the poMtion
that it must buy more land for rccreation it
to us, is lame logic.
