Rehabilitation on heavily-fished lowland waters is a normal part of the fishery management program used when some fish populations become superabundant and depress the water's production of desirable sized fish. Rehabilitation clears the water of competing populations followed by replanting of trout. The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone. So far this year, there are over twice as many deaths as ing With a few notable exceptions, westside fishermen found most waters not too productive as they battled high winds, cold rain, and in some places hail, this past weekend. Lake Cushman, again was hot for cutthroat trout on Saturday and Sunday. These fish come ~rom Lake Standstill, a semi-natural rearing pond area. State Wildlife Agents note that these fish are so bright that some anglers continue to mistake them for silvers, thereby inadvertently catching an overlimit of trout. Anglers may write or phone their nearest regional Game Department office for a handy identification sheet telling the difference between a trout and a k okanee, often called a silver trout. In southwest Washington, Swift Reservoir is still producing excellent fishing for rainbows 7-14 inches and limits are common. A few kokanee (silver trout) are beginning to show in Merwin and Yale, note Game Department officials. Hicks and Summit near Olympia provide very good fishing for rainbow. Roseiger and Lake Fontal, in the Seattle Everett region, continued to provide excellent trout fishing over the Mother's Day weekend. there were this time last year. Coast Guard search and rescue efforts are up almost 20% over last June. Most assistance cases are a direct result of poor preventive maintenance or a neglect to check the fuel supply. "The Pacific Northwest is a dangerous place for a boater to run out of gas" says Lieutenant Commander Hadley, 13th District Boating Safety Chief. "Every out-of-fuel case on the coast is potential fatality; the boat can be in the surf or on the rocks before we can get to it." Hadley also stressed that seasonal boaters are very often the victims of a boating tragedy. The sailor who takes his boat out for the first time this season without thoroughly, checking the engine and its accessories is just asking for trouble. Because of the higti~incidents of breakdowns while thaderway, the Coast Guard has yecently published a new pamphlet, Emergency Repairs Afloat. This pamphlet is free to anyone who cantacts the U. S. Coast Guard Boating Safety Office in Seattle. It may save your boat and your life. OTS rider went ten feet into the air, only the wire mesh fence keeping them from going into the grandstand. Waite walked away with a few bruises, and his bike was fixed by Saturday night when he took a third in Castle Rock in the main event. At the Orting short track, Buck Murphy took first in the 200 A main. Murphy was not fully recovered from his accident of two weeks ago. All of the Shelton racers went to the Elma Fairgrounds on Sunday to race in the mile oval there. Placers there were Dan Kirk, third, 500 cc A main; Dean Singer, second, 200 cc class; Bill Waite, third, 200 cc class and second in 250 cc C main. All our dignity consists, then, in thought.
