Through this non-profit community agency
program, Mason General Hospital receives a
weekly supply of new blood from the Puget
Sound Blood Center in Seattle for the use of
Mason County families. Mason County is one of
seven counties -- King, Thurstorr, Kitsap, Skagit,
Whatcom and Jefferson -- served by the
equipment and staff of the central blood bank.
Four times a year the unit comes to Shelton
to collect blood for processing. It takes about
600 donors a year to provide Mason County's
share of blood to the regional operation. In
1974 Mason County residents were transfused
with 488 units of blood, while blood donors
came to 514. So far in 1975-we have drawn a
tutal of 272 units which is short of our 150 per
quarter goal.
Someone needs your
help to live. Plan to give.
Anyone interested in donating blood to this
community effort should get in touch with the
Senior Center, donor coordinators, and make an
appointment for the next drawing which will be
September 18. You may safely donate a unit up
to five times a year. Because of the components
of blood, the one pint you give may help save
the lives of three people.
Anyone who has received blood at Mason
General Hospital has received a letter from the
hospital stating the need for a certain number of
people to donate in his behalf. This is simply
another way to get more county residents
involved in the blood program. Under'the new
program there is,absolutely no charge for the
blood itself and only a reduced fee is charged for
the administration of the transfusion.
Listed below are some of the organizations and employers in
Mason County who have been participating in this program.
Anyone else who wishes to take a more active part should contact
Arnold Livingston at the I.W.A. Hall, 426-5360.
