With jobs being fairly plentiful this summer, several of the high school students from around the lake are busy working. Among them are Mike Willig, Scott Nilsen and several others. It's been noticeable that there isn't as much boating activity during the week so far this summer as usual. May and Les Cochran were recently disappointed after planning a month-long vacation trip to the southern states, but they weren't able to go because May had to enter the hospital for surgery. Their son Buddy and his family went on the trip as planned and as soon as May is feeling well enough they plan on taking their vacation. Having just returned from a two-week trip throughout California and parts of Nevada, Carl and Harriet Kramp are glad to be back at Mason Lake, which they still think is "the best place of all." Huckleberry Herald money for specialized medical aid and rescue equipment, Mason County Fire District Five has initiated a six-month fund drive with a goal set at $37,812. Fire Chief Dick Knight has prepared a list of some 11 items the district needs to bring its two ambulances up to advanced life support capability and also Knight says the district hopes to raise the money through donations and he is asking local organizations to sponsor fund-raising activities to support the drive. The extrication equipment would be used for freeing victims trapped in accident vehicles. Cost for the "Jaws of Life" set would be an estimated $6,000 with another $6,000 for the remaining extrication equipment. Under medical aid, the first purchase by the district would probably go towards a set of $1,200 MAST anti-shock pants. The inflatable trousers are used to control blood loss in fractures of the legs, hips and pelvis, which Knight says are common in vehicle accidents. Advertising Manager Office Telephone 275-6680 Although Knight says the district could not make use of the unit's defibrillator because it must be used by at least a paramedic under direct physician orders, he says the monitoring capabilities would help the ambulance crew stabilize the victim and give the hospital immediate information on the incoming patient's status. Total cost for the two LifePac units would be an estimated $12,600. Other items  on the list include vacuum splints, vacuum suction units, cardiac care ki portable transceivers, chemical' suits and an explmimeter,,: ...... ," : Knight says purchasing the extrication equipment will be the district's first step in setting up a rescue rig for use at major auto communications with Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton. It would also allow attendants at emergency scenes to communicate directly with either the ambulance crew or hospital. Med Net units would be needed for each of the district's two ambulances at a total cost of $6,085. Knight says that matching funds would probably wrecks or on other serious accidents such as a plane wreck. "Some of this new equipment is stuff you don't use very often, but when you get into a bad situation it's { def'mitely needed." As for the more advanced medical equipment, Knight says, "It's always been the policy of the district to cover the area's and Las Vegas, and then attended a reunion of Carl's Army buddies in the San Diego area. Kay and Vern Williams are enjoying a visit from their two grandsons this summer. Todd Williams of Portland, Oregon, and Craig Mclntosh of Kirkland say they're having a great time swimming and boating. Members from the Mason-Benson Community Club will be busy manning a_ fir_ewot.. stand at the Deer Creek Sto.. parking lot starting on June 2 and continuing through the Fourth of July.
