Home from college and now
busy working at summer jobs are
Dave Cox and Tom Myer from
Central Washington State
University, Becky Sayan from
Western Washington State
University, and Staei Petraitis
from the University of
Washington.
With jobs being fairly
plentiful this summer, several of
the high school students from
around the lake are busy
working. Among them are Mike
Willig, Scott Nilsen and several
others. It's been noticeable that
there isn't as much boating
activity during the week so far
this summer as usual.
May and Les Cochran were
recently disappointed after
planning a month-long vacation
trip to the southern states, but
they weren't able to go because
May had to enter the hospital
for surgery. Their son Buddy and
his family went on the trip as
planned and as soon as May is
feeling well enough they plan on
taking their vacation.
Having just returned from a
two-week trip throughout
California and parts of Nevada,
Carl and Harriet Kramp are glad
to be back at Mason Lake, which
they still think is "the best place
of all." They flew to San
Francisco where they visited

County Fire District Five has
initiated a six-month fund drive
with a goal set at $37,812.
Fire Chief Dick Knight has
prepared a list of some 11 items
the district needs to bring its
two ambulances up to advanced
life support capability and also
Knight says the district hopes
to raise the money through
donations and he is asking local
organizations to sponsor
fund-raising activities to support
the drive.
Although the fire district has
not set any priorities for items
on the list, Knight says the
department would probably first

miscellaneous tools. The
extrication equipment would be
used for freeing victims trapped
in accident vehicles.
Cost for the "Jaws of Life"
set would be an estimated
$6,000 with another $6,000 for
the remaining extrication
equipment.
Under medical aid, the first
purchase by the district would
probably go towards a set of
$1,200 MAST anti-shock pants.
The inflatable trousers are used
to control blood loss in fractures
of the legs, hips and pelvis,
which Knight says are common
in vehicle accidents.
Another prime purchase
would be for radio equipment

Although Knight says the
district could not make use of
the unit's defibrillator because it
must be used by at least a
paramedic under direct physician
orders, he says the monitoring
capabilities would help the
ambulance crew stabilize the
victim and give the hospital
immediate information on the
incoming patient's status.
Total cost for the two
LifePac units would be an
estimated $12,600.
Other items on the list
include vacuum splints, vacuum
suction units, cardiac care ki
portable transceivers, chemical'
suits and an explmimeter,,: ...... ," :
Knight says purchasing the
extrication equipment will be the
district's first step in setting up a
rescue rig for use at major auto
communications with Harrison
Memorial Hospital in Bremerton.
It would also allow attendants at
emergency scenes to
communicate directly with either
the ambulance crew or hospital.
Med Net units would be
needed for each of the district's
two ambulances at a total cost
of $6,085. Knight says that
matching funds would probably

accidents such as a plane wreck.
"Some of this new
equipment is stuff you don't use
very often, but when you get
into a bad situation it's

As for the more advanced
medical equipment, Knight says,
"It's always been the policy of
the district to cover the area's

Army buddies in the San Diego
area.
