Pee Wee Soccer
By SALLY ANDERSON
Enthusiasm ran wild last
week as 73 local youngsters
turned out for the start of the
1978 North Mason Poe Wee
soccer season.
. Interest among the younger
kickers has been great enough to
force the association into
sponsoring two "E" league teams
this year, says coordinator Pat
Ruff.
Coach for the E Team Black
will be Mr. Moss while Mr.
Stromberg will coach the E
Team Gold.
Dan Orchard returns to his D
Team duties after coaching last
year's team to a second-place
finish in the Southern Kitsap
Division.
Former coordinator Tom
Higgins brings three years of
experience to his return as coach
of North Mason's A Team.
Although the A Team
dropped its first two games last
Tuesday to Naval Avenue and
Thursday to Chico, Higgins says
his team's "definitely not losers.
"After some more experience
playing as a team, we're going to
look forward to a season of
winning."
Starting news was better for
the D Team as Mark Knowles
booted in three goals to lead his
team past Warren Avenue last
Tuesday, 5-0. Teammates
Richard Stiles and John
Anderson also helped by scoring
one goal each.
On Thursday the D Team
connected again with a 4-1

victory over South Kitsap East.
Sam Grable led the scoring this
time with his two goals while
Stiles and Brian Stromberg
followed with one each.
In its first outing the E Team
Gold found itself in a boot-out
against visiting South Kitsap
Central at the Mission Creek
Field but North Mason came up
on the short end, 4-6. Brian
Copps, Chris Harmon and Jeff
Hinds scored the Gold goals.
E Team Black started its
season off on the right foot with
a 2-1 win over Naval Avenue.
Richard Moss and Parris Shepard
accounted for the goals, while
North Mason goalie David Hicks
managed to keep Naval's score at
one.
Seasoned A Team strikers are
Mike Clark, Steve Clark, Deb
Knowles and Steve Shellgren.
"With the help of 1977 D
Team recruits Steve Anderson
and Brian Ruff and new players
