These traditional practices help counter the isolating emotion that comes with grieving. Few people are more experienced in guiding the grieving process and directing the rituals sur- rounding death than the funeral director, who can offer advice in all such matters. When the grief-stricken must confront death without the support of inherited faith or liturgy, they may turn to the funeral director for guidance during this most disruptive period in their lives. By guiding the grief-stricken through an affirmation of the transcendence of life, funeral directors help grief find ex- pression.
