Union concert to benefit scholarship fund Friday
Victor Cummings is set to
perform a special concert on
Friday, July 3, at the Union
Square Deli beginning at 6
p.m. to benefit his late sis-
ter's memorial scholarship
foundation. Peggy Cum-
mings Bolling Memorial
Scholarship supports Mason
County residents interested
in equestrian studies.
Peggy Cummings Bolling
was well known and ad-
mired in the Mason County
horsemanship community
prior to her death from can-
cer in 1991. She was an ac-
tive leader in 4-H and the
Mason County Fair. Along
with her former husband,
Tom Bolling, the pair for
many years thrilled young-
sters by bringing "Santa
Claus to town" in the an-
nual Christmas Parade, rid-
ing atop a vintage wagon
pulled by their beautifully
bedecked Hafflinger draft
horses.
When Peggy learned that
a local riding club for spe-
cial-needs children would
have to close due to lack
of funds, she launched the
Happy Trails Fun Ride,
which became an annual
fund-raiser for the special-
needs riding program. When
the Mason County chapter
of Back Country Horsemen
closed for organizational
reasons in 1992, local mem-
Peggy Cummings Boiling was active in 4-H and
the Mason County Fair before her death from
cancer in 1991.
bers, including June Sims,
Tom and Kris Moran and
Paul Eveleth, decided to
convert the club's remaining
resources to create the Peg-
gy Bolling Memorial Schol-
arship Foundation. Since
then, the foundation has
given more than $10,000 to
Mason County residents for
individual studies as well as
group activities such as 4-H
travels to national compe-
titions. Last October, two
individual $1,500 scholar-
ships were awarded to An-
drea Jensen and Ashley
Enger, both of Shelton.
