Mason County All-Stars compete in Yelm

in the Hwy 510 Tournament

Smotherman and Nic Sheetz
led the way in an opening
13-6 win over Longview's
Western Blue squad. Austin
Ramsfield's home run helped
Mason County earn a 6-6 tie
with the B squad from San-
dy, Ore. in the second game.
The young Mason County
ballplayers started off Sun-
day's action with an 11-1
loss to Sandy's A squad.

Smotherman was the only

muster off a strong Sandy
team. The boys from Mason

ment with a 7-5 loss to West-
ern Red in six innings. Max
F. Johnson led the way with
a home run and Ramsfield

After Tyler Dunnington
and Colton Twiddy collected
a pair of singles, Joe Strand
hit a deep drive into left
field for a two-run double.
Capital countered with
five runs in the seventh in-
ning to seal the victory.
"I know these guys want
to win. We just are still look-
ing for someone to step up
and be a leader - not just by
example, but be vocal. There
are guys that are capable of
it, but they just have to do
it. The little things are mak-
ing a big difference and to-
day they were all on display.
Our base running was horri-
ble. Weare not bitting relay
guys, not backing up bases.
We are still taking way too
many fastballs at the plate,"
Daniels said.

Timbers start hot in
Wenatchee
Shelton did finally snap
their nine-game losing skid
over the weekend at the
Apple Valley Invitational
in Wenatchee. The Timbers
got out of the gate hot with
victories over Stanwood,
Eastmont and River Ridge
to advance to the semifinals.
"The win over Stanwood
was sweet because that is
the team that ended our sea-
son at state last year," Dan-
iels said.
Dunnington hit two home
runs during the tournament
pitched a complete game in
the 5-4 victory over East-
mont.
The Timbers ran into
a hot Pride Baseball club
fn the semis and lost 11-1.
They fell to Eatonville in the
third-place game on Sunday.
"Eight teams went home
on Saturday and we were
in the final four, so I am
pleased with that," Daniels
said.
The Timbers traveled to
Pullman on Wednesday to
begin the Palouse Summer
Series tournament.
"I hope we have enough
pitching arms to hold up the
team," Daniels said.

als for up tailored to each of our patients'

researchers found that carrying
extra body weight increases the
likelihood that a person will even-
tually have to undergo knee- or
hip-replacement surgery. Accord-
ing to the study, people in the top
quarter of the body mass index
(BMI) were 3.44 times more like-
ly to undergo joint replacement
surgery than those in the bottom
quarter of the index. Other mea-
sures of body fat, including body
weight, fat mass, percentage fat,
and waist circumference, also
pointed to the same conclusion.
While it certainly makes sense
that additional body weight exerts
more pressure on the knees and
hips, making replacement surgery
more likely, researchers note that
