RIIIIII uJiiDmiiirI LIIIBII Jill Sex offender charge with not registering A Shelton man with two prior sex offense convic- tions as well as a convic- tion for failing to register allegedly failed to register again and is back in Mason County Superior Court on a new charge. Wesley Howard Dun- can, 25, was arraigned on Friday. He was listed as transient at booking. He entered a not-guilty plea to a charge of failure to reg- ister as a sex offender and is scheduled for trial dur- ing the jury term beginning August 11. He is required to register as a result of a 2001 con- viction for rape of a child in the second degree and a 2004 conviction for rape of a child in the third degree. The offenses were commit- ted in Mason County. According to court docu- ments, Duncan registered his address as 1508 Dickin- son Avenue in Shelton with the sheriffs office on March 19. Officers attempted to locate him at that address on May 28 without success and again on June 2 when they were told he had not lived there for two weeks and was staying in Elma. He was seen in Elma hanging out at the high school between June 2 and 12. Duncan was arrested June 17 in Elma. Duncan, who has one prior conviction for failure to register in 2007, is being held on $20,000 bail. Melissa Rose Whitener, 30, of131 SE Nak Sub Loop, Shelton, pled not guilty on Monday to assault in the third degree. She is accused of assault- ing Dr. Eugene Sine on April 21 at the Skokomish Health Center. According to court documents, Whitener was being treated for a cut on her lower leg. When the doctor told her he needed to take a swab of the wound she allegedly became angry and yelled at him, saying she wanted Vicodin. When he said he needed to do a culture first, she allegedly threw the bloody bandage from her leg at the doctor, hitting him in the face. She is scheduled for trial during the jury term begin- ning September 15. Comments about this story may be directed to reporter Mary Duncan at: maryd@masoncounty. com or 426-4412.
